No, there is not a removeable cover. The entire bunny goes into the microwave.

Q: I've used this many times, but the last time, it came out of the microwave smelling bad. Can I fix this?

Some of the flax could be burned and in that case no. But it could be also that something in your microwave smelled bad before you used your cozy and then in that case no also :(

Q: What kind of grain is inside? Rice, flax, buckwheat, something else?

I do not know. If I was to guess it seems like rice. It gets hot and stays hot for a long time. My teenage daughter loves it!!!! It's very soft on the outside.
