Hurricane Katrina Rescue (Ranger in Time #8) (8)

I got a set of 5 of these books for my class to read after we are done with curriculum. My class is a 2nd-5th grade self-contained unit. I used this with 3rd graders who all have ADHD and Language impairments. All year long they struggled with listening comprehension and would get distracted. This book maintains their attention for at least 30 minutes. They were able to relate the story to their background knowledge and followed it pretty well. They were wanting me to keep reading since they were so engaged. If you are on the fence about getting this book for your child, get it. I am wanting to purchase more of this series!!

When choosing a read aloud, it is important that the story be interesting, that it moves at a quick pace, and the plot be complicated enough for students to make predictions and inferences. This is a light read but well written story.

We stumbled upon this series of books at the school book fair and enjoyed them so much that we sought out more books. This particular book is our 2nd purchase and he wants to buy more! I like how the author takes real life events but puts it on a child's level and helps them to understand it. Great read!

We love Ranger in Time and this one is no different. My kiddo enjoyed learning about Hurricane Katrina (we live far away from NOLA and he has never been there). He understood the neighborhoods that were hardest hit and how the hurricane’s destruction is still present. For that, I’m so thankful to Kate Messner.

My son is in 5th grade and loves this entire series for all the book reviews. So grateful for these books.

My 8-year-old son has enjoyed every book in the Ranger in Time series so far, and this one was no exception. As a parent, I love the historic education provided by the author at the end of the stories.

Once I started I couldn’t put it down until I read every word to the very end! The kids at school are going to LOVE this one!
