The Best !
Louisiana is called home to me and I love the food, And I have many, many cook books. This cook book (and her series of books) are very authentic and exact. I learned to cook from of the best cajun locals and these books tell old time cooking tips, just as I was taught. I buy these books every year for gifts. Absolutely one of the BEST GUMBO cook books on the market.

The Roux & Gumbo Bible
I've lived in Louisiana all of my life and learned how to make a roux when I was knee high to a grasshopper by watching my Aunt Mace stir and stir and stir it in her big black cast iron skillet or pot. Almost every recipe my Mama and Aunt Mace made started out with the words, "First you make a roux..."I'm very happy to report that this book has the most wonderful recipes for roux and gumbo that I've ever read. My youngest daughter recently moved from Louisiana to Tennessee and was looking for a jar of roux in the grocery store. The store manager had no idea what she was talking about and had never even heard of gumbo. I immediately thought to buy her this book for Valentine's Day. I taught her to make a roux during the holiday season, so she's halfway to gumbo already.A coworker gave me a copy of this book back in 1988 and I've completely worn out my copy. It's a one-of-a-kind treasure that should be in every kitchen, especially if you enjoy true Southern cooking.

It Says It All
I had borrowed an original of this fabulous Gumbo book from a good friend. Wouldn't you know she'd want it back. I'd copied a bunch but wanted the book myself and thought it would surely be out of print. May that never happen for Gumbo lovers world wide. This book gives Gumbo cooking in detail. McKee encourages you straight through to try it yourself. She gives her recipes but lets you know your additions will be just as good. Besides Gumbo recipes she tell you step by step how to make the roux, that 'gravy' that 'makes' the gumbo. She give seasoning recipes to make in bulk to have on hand for Gumbo as well as other cajun dishes. 'The Little Gumbo Book:..' may be little, but if you want to try cajun cookin' it's dynamite. Get it!

BEST USED AS A KINDLE VERSION
This little book is very reassuring for anyone heading off into Gumbo Territory. In its hard copy version though, it feels more like a small vanity project. It is bound carefully, but it is quite stiff. It's best given as a keepsake, while the heavy lifting is carried out using a tablet and the Kindle version. If it were spiral-bound as so many smaller cookbooks are, it would likely find a larger cooking audience. I've taken to scanning in whatever page I want to use to cook from; Lots of splotches and smears, and nobody dies at the end of the day . . .

2 Thumbs Up!
A great gumbo cookbook if you're a gumbo lover/gumbo maker, and you've been stuck at only making one version, or two, all your life. 27 recipes... I was pleased to see that they're not all slight variations of 1 or 2 recipes. A lot of variety! Yet, most recipes didn't stray so far from what the essence of what truly makes a gumbo, that it was some gumbo-like concoction, added to fill out the recipe roster! Quite compact in size, make sure you don't accidentally tuck it out of the way some place, where you might forget where you put it. Comes at a cheap price though! Well worthy of purchasing! I bought one as a gift to my mother, and she loved it.

It is a great little book for just a few bucks
OK, it is not the greatest book on Gumbo but it has a lot or recipes that are good. The part of the book that I found really helpful was on making the Roux. It have several ways of making it including using the oven without all the oil you would normally use. Yes, you could search the internet and get everything you ever wanted but try putting all the paperwork in order to keep track of it. If you want to spend the 4-6 bucks, which includes shipping and handling, I think it is worth it.
