Mix with Gamsol!
NEVER USING “GESSO” AGAIN this ground is archival quality. For those who don’t know how to use it: mix some of this lovely thick ground with a splash of gamsol well, it should run a little like paint. Apply to the center of the canvas and then brush out in a burst from middle to the outer sides NOT with a brush but with stiff cards like all that junk mail you get at home! Let it dry, can do more layers. When you take the time to mix it well you get a beautifully smooth finish.

Still the best
I've tried other methods for preparing my surfaces for oil painting, but I come back to this because it simply provides a better surface.

A great primer under your oil paint.
To coat purchased oil prepared art canvas with at least one, maybe more coats of primer. This helps to keep oil colors from sinking into the canvas as they are painted, thus keeping the finished paint colors much brighter.

Old?
The can arrived damaged but I didn’t care about it. When I opened the top, it had a thick yellow thing. IPoked it and it is rubbery. This itemSays new on it. However, it looks old. It supposed to be white and a person should be able to stir it. This one is impossible to stir. It has done bad.

Nice luster
I like this ground. It had to be thinned and mixed before applied as it seemed like it was standing for a while but, it was a good price so made up for the consistency.

Great value!
I purchased it to specifically prime 40 year old wood paneling, this is designed for this, and it was a great value for the money

Its so much superior to acrylic grounds I would recommend it to anyone ...
Having learned oil painting ages ago in the traditional manner, rabbit skin glue and white lead on linen, I spent some years trying to find something that worked as well. This fits the bill perfectly. Its so much superior to acrylic grounds I would recommend it to anyone to try.
