Totally Impressed With This PC
My stepdad-- who is not at all tech savvy -- needed a basic computer for checking his e-mail. He had been using an old laptop his sister had given him, growing more frustrated with its poor performance and overall lack of versatility, so I suggested he upgrade to something better. He did not need, nor was he interested, in a state of the art, hi-tech computer with all the bells/whistles, so I checked out the refurbished computers here on Amazon. This was my first time ordering a renewed PC and I took a leap of faith-- given my outstanding, years-long experiences buying from Amazon as well as the 90-day $$ back guarantee -- and ordered this HP ProDesk. Took it over to his house yesterday and set it up for him--WAHWAHWEEEWAH, I was blown away by how nice it was, especially for the price. It looked brand new. I had ordered a separate 27" monitor (will review that as well). Unboxing everything and setting it up took probably 15-20 minutes and consisted of mostly plugging in cables and cords. Although I still gave it 5 stars, it wasn't all peachy, however, so please be aware of the following: 1. The power cord is really short-- I think it was 24"? (I wish I had measured it), and we had to move his desk a significant distance to be closer to the wall outlet -- okay, an extension cord would have helped but stepdad just didn't have one on hand. 2. There was no HDMI port to connect the monitor to the computer -- we tried every port on the PC, to no avail. We figured out that the only way to connect monitor to PC was through a VGA cord-- not included with either the monitor or the PC. This necessitated a run to Best Buy where thankfully they had such a cord (you guys are the best!), $14.99 and yes, it worked perfectly. When that monitor screen lit up and displayed the Windows logo we both let out a whoop of joy, that's how good it looked. I went ahead and set up the starting questions for him and we connected the PC with the ethernet cable to his router (or was it the modem? not sure, but it worked) and he was in business. Absolutely fabulous, despite the 2 snafus we encountered with the short power cord and the lack of HDMI port on PC. Totally worth it, and I'm even considering chucking my old PC here at home -- which I purchased new, cost over $1000-- and "upgrading" to a computer exactly like this one. On an amusing side note-- the box that the computer came in is the perfect size for an adult cat to sleep in. As soon as I took the PC out and into the home office, within 5 minutes, Fluffy was in that box sound asleep, on top of the packing materials. Highly recommend this product! Even if you don't have a cat! :)

My last attempt with a used PC may have finally paid off...
This is the 5th time I purchase a used PC, and this was the last. If it proved to be garbage like the other 4, it would get the sledgehammer treatment, or the target practice treatment at the gun range like the first used piece of trash Dell laptop I bought. The last desktop I bought was a nightmare. It was a Dell PC bundle at 3x the cost of this one. On paper the specs of the Dell were great... but when it arrived, it had only 4GB RAM, not the 8 that was advertised, and the processor was probably a fake i5, and a monitor that was so old that it did not even have an HDMI port, and the cable was faulty, and they did not even provide a power cable. But that's nothing on the nightmare scale compared to the fact that it had some kind of keylogger installed, as all my devices were compromised and even my friend's devices as well. I won't get into the details, but I have been learning the importance of buying devices from trustworthy sources and taking the steps to make sure your system is secure and safe. The consequences can ruin lives. My friend is a very experienced IT specialist, and he went through this HP system with a fine-tooth comb to make sure it is a safe and secure system that arrived as advertised. He found no preloaded viruses but explained that the most dangerous viruses, keyloggers, which allow for people to remotely gain full access to the system, are incredibly easy to hide, so he took the extra step to wipe the drive clean and reinstall Windows. It has been just over a week now, and I absolutely love this HP. It is light years ahead of the Dell garbage, and I am extremely impressed and happy with it. I run very demanding music and film production software, and I am shocked by how well it has been handling the workload. On my Dell's in the past, it used to take almost 4-5 minutes to load ProTools and Ableton, and almost as long to load video software like Lightworks and OpenShot. Now, these programs are loading in 10 seconds or less. Other small programs are loading in fractions of a second now. This is the fastest PC I've owned, yet it's the cheapest I've ever owned. This is the kind of deal I have been hoping for when buying used PC's. I can FINALLY create my film without being constantly infuriated by abysmal system performance. I also invested in the best of the best security and VPN services.I am very hopeful now that I will be able to complete my project with a setup that cost me less than $300, even including a brand new large frameless monitor, high end Wi-Fi adapter, high end security, and upgraded keyboard and mouse. If this HP ended up being garbage like the Dell JUNK, I would have had to call my dad and ask to borrow $1,000... I'd rather get punched in the face, twice, than ask to borrow money. So, thanks to this PC, I am feeling hopeful, and all the bad experiences can be put behind me. I had faith that there really are exceptionally good finds in used PC's, and it seems I have been rewarded in my efforts. The point of this really long review...When buying a used PC, it's very important that you know what you are doing. Take the time and effort to learn and be diligent on making sure the product you received is the exact product you paid for! Spend the money on protecting yourself with good security and VPN protection. If you respect the machine, it will respect you back! And last but not least...... DON'T buy a used Dell!!! Trust me!!!!!! Just don't do it! I am now staying loyal to HP. This is the best system on this entire website for under $100!
