Introduction to Old English, 3rd Edition Paperback – 6 Mar. 2012

Fantastic for my husband who has already been learning old English from other texts, this is well set out for dipping into and studying specific aspects of vocabulary. Great to have links to a website as well, brings it into current usage. He is very happy!

I am finding this book most useful and only wish that it had been written years ago, when I first came across Anglo-Saxon. I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone interested in Old English.

It's a great book for the student, but I did find some of his layouts for explaining the cases confusing. That said, I really like the exercises and the proses he introduces by the seventh lesson. A knowledge of German is a great help, but Mr. Baker fills each chapter with information and facts and grammar. I am on my second reading of the book and learning a great deal. I thoroughly recommend this book.

I found the lessons engrossing, well thought out and overall, simple to understand. A very interesting book for someone who wishes to read and understand original works without having to rely on someone else's translation and gives a good feel for how the English language has evolved from those early days.

I couldn't have asked for a better companion for the Old English module of my degree. There's so much information and history in this deceptively small book. A really fascinating read for study or otherwise.
