Cadac Carri Chef 2(50)
Eventually arrived, used it for the 1st time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to put together.must admit it is a heavy unit but cooked meats very well without burning with the variable cooking heat.i had it on the lowest heat setting and it was just about right. The chicken drumsticks were not fully cooked so i turned it off put the lid on and it finished cooking them whilst we polished off the rest of the meat. The bbq does not come with the gas pipe or the regulator so i assume its because you can choose your own cooking gas.bit surprised there is no gas pipe tho.. i ordered the chef 2 but the new name chef 50 came.its the same unit by all accounts.overall very pleased

Good solid "portable" bbq for camping or garden
Good solid device for taking in the new caravan to save grease spatter in the kitchen area. Its pretty heavy though but it should last way beyond any cheaper version.Used it for a few days for breakfast sausages on the griddle & eggs in the flat section. Steak, sausage, kebabs, pork chops all leave crispy residue behind (must keep an eye on the heat levels) but cleans off easily with soapy water & a sponge.Plugs effortlessly into the bbq outlet on the van with a 2m quick release pipe I made up. Hanging the lid on the back protects the van/ awning from spatter. The bag isn't great, I pulled the velco strap straight off as I was packing it the first time. The sewn end just frayed and came away. For the price, a decent bag would make it the perfect buy.I will probably use it in the garden for family gatherings, its plenty big enough but might need the full griddle for that.

Much better than the Safari !
I bought the Safari Chef about a year ago, it was ok but fairly hard to clean especially in getting the hard burnt on stuff off it, now then the Carri Chef is a different animal, better quality and a lot bigger, the burn’t fat and grease just wipe off with kitchen towel so easily and the base bowl just wipes out, the griddle 1/2 and 1/2 unit plate I got was oh so much easier to clean also, so glad I got this now it’s far better than the Safari Chef. Highly rec10/10 👍

The best gas bbq
We purchased our first cadac 7 years ago, fantastic. Around half a dozen friends have gone on to buy one having seen how good they are. The latest purchase was a present for our daughter and family, I know they will have a lifetime of fun and use out of it.

Great versatility you cant fault, need better heat control....!!!!!
For its versatility you really can't fault these, makes camp cooking a breeze. The grill to braai is great for breakfasts and general cooking.BUT.... HOWEVER............. There are only two heat settings, High & low. This creates its problems!!! Even on Low setting with the lid off or on (trying to prevent splatter) it gets too hot food burns before its cooked through properly.I don't see how it would be possible to use the roast pan for example with the lid on without cremating everything. On the Low heat setting it still gets to 250c with the lid on.This would be so much better with a variable heat setting like you find on most gas BBQ's these days, its the only thing that lets it down in my opinion and is why i give 3 stars.I did find a way around the heat setting problem via turning the dial back past the ignition once lit to a much lower flame. Thus with the lid on i could achieve a nice 170c, for such things as chicken which need that extra time to cook through and i wasnt burning sausages any more either..!!! I cook alot and the sausage burning was frustrating even when moving them around still burning before cooked through...I am now researching to find a suitable variable gas valve to replace the existing one that came on the Cadac.I got the Cadac that only came with the Grill to braai as my budget would not allow me to get the larger packages available but figured i could get by. The only other additions i would get are the Skottle, Chef Pan, Pizza Stone and Roast Pan (once ive got replacement variable valve)With the Grill to braai (Braai side) to me (i bbq alot) i just wasnt getting that bbq flavour like you would on a normal bbq. If like me your a bbq chef addict and you enjoy that bbq flavour i wouldn't bother with the Braai (bbq) addition, it just wasn't doing it for me... but thats just me.
