Not remotely accurate
All this is capable of is detecting if there is light present on the fiber and the direction of where the light is coming from, barely at that. You have to pull the trigger pretty hard for it to even read anything. Accuracy is a joke. On .250 fiber, it will read at -24 when the fiber tests at -17 at the fitting. On .900 fiber, it will read -27 When there is -19 at the fitting. This was also tested on a bare fiber to see if the jacket was diffusing the light. Even on bare fiber it was 6db off. For another example, you can have 3 feet of fiber out and test at 6 different locations on the fiber in that 3 foot span. With a reference of -18 at the fitting, this "tool" will read anywhere from -23 to -31. So yes, it will technically detect that there is light present, but if you want an accurate reading this tool will not do it.

Works great
The Optical Fiber Traffic Live Identifier with Built-in VFL is like the Swiss Army knife of fiber optic tools, packed with features that make fiber troubleshooting and maintenance a breeze. Covering wavelengths from 800nm to 1700nm, this device is a reliable sidekick for detecting live traffic, identifying signal direction, and spotting faults in your network. Its wide dynamic range (-40dBm to 10dBm) ensures accuracy, whether you’re dealing with low-power signals or stronger transmissions. The built-in Visual Fault Locator (VFL) is a bonus, allowing you to visually pinpoint breaks or bends in the fiber. Plus, the all-in-one chuck design supports 0.25, 0.9, 2.0, and 3.0mm fibers, making it versatile enough for various applications. And let’s not forget the LED light, which comes in handy during those dark, awkward installations.I used this on a recent fiber project, and it felt like having a tech wizard in my pocket. The traffic detector responded quickly and accurately, saving me hours of guesswork. If you’re looking for a tool that’s efficient, compact, and user-friendly, this one’s a win. Just be prepared for everyone on your team to borrow it—they’ll want a turn with this gadget!
