A great shoe!
These might be the most comfortable shoes I own. A big thanks to new balance for making a 12 1/2 extra wide. Most companies stop offering half sizes once it gets up to 12.

Ankle Support, Extremely light weight
I like these shoes. They’re INCREDIBLY light in weight. I wear them to the gym, and when I’m doing leg lifts, it’s almost like I have no shoe weight on my feet at all! I like the height of the top, which gives me more ankle support (I have an old sports injury to my ankles that makes extra support desirable). These are of course attractive looking. They have cleat-like pieces on the bottoms that keep the neon green (bottoms) from getting dirty. The only thing I don’t like about these is that when lacing them around the posts/catches at the top, the shoe strings can get caught at the bottom of the posts and make you think that their IN the posts. You find out they weren’t when you look down and your shoe is tied, but loose because the lace has fallen out of the catch/post.These say “toe protect” on the toes area, but it’s just a slightly heavier plastic, not a composite or something of similar nature.I do wish they made these same shoes in a white color.

To The Emerald Isle we went!
Ok, what others have written is true. These run narrow. I returned 11 regulars for 11 wides, made all the difference. Very comfortable. Taking these to Ireland in three weeks, will try to update afterward re: durability, waterproofness.UPDATE: two weeks of constant use in Ireland. Walked the southern half of The Western Way, then all over Dublin. The Hierros performed well. After a 14-mile day, the area under the ball/forefoot was a bit warm, as some have noted. This area could use a bit more padding/gel, even with my SuperFeet inserts. Still consider these a good purchase.

Think They Might Be Used???
Aside from being used and being grossed out, I put on some clean socks and tried them on (immediately removing my socks and washing my feet [I might have a phobia]). I walked briefly around the house to check fit. I found them to be a bit short and narrow. I suspect that after walking outside in the Texas heat, my foot will swell, making these shoes uncomfortably short and narrow.I wear, depending on the shoe, a 12-13 4E. My previous experience with New Balance has been 12-4E. I also suffer from a very flat right foot and right ankle issues from a combination of football and Marine Corps injuries and abuse during my youth, so I search for good arch support and ankle stabilization for my right foot. These shoes appear to produce my desired results. I will be returning this pair for a 12.5 4E or 13 4E.Lastly, I have some concerns regarding the GoreTex liner. My previous experience with GoreTex in footwear has been that it has been hot, contained sweat (keeping my feet damp), and not stretchable (preventing leather boots from molding to my foot shape). On the other hand, it’s supposed to breath and keep you dry. Maybe it works better under a textile rather than leather. I’m willing to give GoreTex another shot.I will update this review when I receive a new set of shoes.Update:I chose to get the 13 4E and received them yesterday. They fit well. They were long enough, but still slightly narrow for my tastes, though not uncomfortably so.I decided to keep them and wore them for the rest of the day including a bit of shopping and a small amount of work at my shop, loading a motorcycle into the bed of my truck (out in the East Texas heat/humidity), and well into the night. My feet felt SO MUCH better than usual at the end of my day! They were slightly damp, but I'm not convinced more so than usual. I am VERY pleased. In Summary:Wile not the most stylish for every-day wear or with athletic shorts/t-shirt, they are VERY comfortable, VERY supportive of the arch and ankle, and the cushion is VERY soft and stable. They are perfectly stylish if used for their intended purpose (hiking/trail running) and I think they will look fine with jeans after the weather cools this fall. I have not tested their water resistance, but it appears rain is in the forecast.I'll update this review regarding durability and water resistance in the future. At this point in my experience, I would purchase them again.

They do not have gussetts
I like the comfort style and feel. Don't like lack of gussett; makes putting on a bit of a struggle.

Great overall
Great shoe overall, very durable and gets satisfying traction across different surfaces. They’re comfortable and have held up well after approximately 7 months of use. The only thing I’m not satisfied with has been the uneven wear on the upper section above the laces where the tongue rubs against. (See picture) this is only on the left shoe.
