Avery A4 P340 Precision Trimmer Paper Cutter, Black and Teal

For use of making business cards.

Used every day in a school for the children’s work.

Unfortunately this trimmer was not accurate out of the box and had an overall variance against the cutting guide of 1.5mm from one end to the other. This broke down as follows:The cutting blade was 1mm beyond the cutting edge at one end and 2.5mm at the other. This made all cuts made using the guide wonky and inaccurate.Unfortunately without seriously eyeballing the frame beyond the guide and therefore aligning to the actual cutting edge (very hard to just eyeball) the results were exceedinly poor, especially given this product is 4 times the price of other cutters.I really think this should be accurate out of the box as its name suggests 'precision' but it was not.Remedial actionI was unsure if I should see if i could DIY the guide or return the product and try another brand.In the end I decided to DIY as the product had promise if the guide could be fixed. After taking one side off, cutting the guide tab to expand the hole that holds it in the side and trimming the edge so it could be pushed further forward i was able to reassemble and use a bit of plasti card to pin the guide forward in position. My previous Avery trimer served me well I had it for years so I thought time for a change and chose well this is a great bit of kit. A lot more bulkier than my old one and quite a bit heavier but is great to use, I'm well pleased.

The trimmer does what I want. I'm happy with this purchase.

I have used a version of this make of trimmer for a long time I thought that I would treat myself to a latter version for using it to cut photos unless you juggle the photo it will not cut at the correct angle, still using "old faithfull"

This trimmer is huge for an A4 trimmer and feels very solid. It may cut up to 30 sheets of 80gsm paper, but if you want a good edge on that cut, stick to about 10 sheets. It cuts straight and the base has lots of alignment marks. However absolute precision can be tricky, on my trimmer the "shoulder" edges are not exactly perpendicular to the cutting edge, although the base markings are. Also the cutting edge is very slightly below the base surface so the blade bends the paper down slightly when it cuts, changing the line of the cut very slightly. So for general office use this is absolutely fine (but don't think it will replace a good guillotine for high volume work). However, for taking the edges off photos or other high precision work, it can be frustrating if you're looking for perfection (as can most trimmers I've used).
