Great Alternative to Custom Orthotic (at least for me)
I have degenerative arthritis in my big toe joints and had surgery two years ago to remove a bone fragment in one of them. I have some custom orthotics (you know, the $400 type), and I love them. But about a year ago I bought a pair of these and put them in the bottom of my work boots, along with a generic semi-rigid arch-supporting insert on top of them. For the past year, I've spent about as much time in those work boots as I have wearing other shoes with the custom orthotic. Both support my toes equally well and allow me to walk without pain.I'll be getting another set!

Very pleased
I broke my big to years ago, and it's been painful for decades. I went to a podiatrist with my story of breaking my big toe and that it was painful, and he informed me that I was wrong, it wasn't the toe but my high arch, so I needed orthotics. $600 later for a custom insert, and I still had a toe that had been broken and didn't heal properly and was painful. 10 years after that, I went to a osteopathic foot surgeon who said yes, the toe never healed properly and it probably hurt like hell. However, until it was at the point that it confined me to a wheel chair, I should just leave it alone, because the likelihood the surgery would make it better was very low. I should just tape it.This insert has solved 90% of the issues I have with my toe. It provides just enough support that I and walk normally without pain. If I'm climbing hills or a ladder where I have to put all my weight on my toe it still hurts some.

My podiatrist instructed me to flip the product over
The Dr said that the carbon fiber should reduce flexing of the rest of the toes while leaving the arthritic big toe "fooled" into the impression there was less flexing to do. It has seemed fairly effective over the past several weeks and the benefit is more noticable than when the insert was under the affected toe.

Very uncomfortable/painful where the insole stops (doesn't have anything under remaining 4 toes)
Even when placed under a shoe/boot insole, this is so stiff that it doesn't conform AT ALL to any shoe I have. I know rigidity is the point, but it needs at least some material at the 'cutout' in the insole. Instead, it leaves a hard/rubbing gap where the insole 'rises above' the shoe insole.

Doesn't fit most shoes
While it does what it says, I have tried it in about 8 of my flat shoes, boots and sneakers. It doesn't lie flat in any of them. Not sure how to find a shoe that meets their criteria for use.

Fantastic
Fixed my painful turf toe when nothing else would. I even made a podiatry appointment my foot hurt so bad. Been wearing this for about a week and it’s made a world of difference, totally worth it. Only negative is that it makes a squeaking/squishing sound when you walk which is a little annoying, but not a big deal.

Won't buy it again
Does not come with a comfort pad between the insole and foot.
