Cut the same length as the original, don't be tempted to make it more or less than a couple of inches longer or shorter. Both will give you trouble.You will then have lots left over to use for other things.

I originally bought 5mm for a large lawnmower restring and was impressed by the quality of both the cord and the reel on which it came. Most other cord comes as a floppy hank but this cord is relatively rigid & dense (suggesting a tight weave).I bought the 3mm and 4mm for smaller engines (both now used) and have measured the cord to give some comparison guide for those who need to replace like with like:3mm = 3.13mm measured4mm = 3.84mm5mm = 4.61mmHope this assists someone.

by far the most cost effective way of buying starter cord compared to the small lengths shipped and then not suitable.

The reel says 3.5mm when measured it is 2.5mm when it is used it will loose atleast 0.5mmI have used the sthil cord there 3.5mm stats as 4.0mm which after several pulls tightens up to 3.5mm.
