Great Product
I used this product on an antique dining room table. It had some spots where the finish and color had worn off from years of use. The product covered great. I did use several coats to make sure the cover was even. I was a bit concerned when I received the tube of color because the color tag on the tube was a lot lighter than the color I wanted. However, after opening up the stain, it was perfect. It matched perfectly to the old stain on the table. It went on smoothly and coated really well. I had plenty left over. It was a bit thick, but overall, I was very pleased.

Great water based stain!
I've bought several tubes of Minwax water based express color wiping stain. I first used it on some bookcases we built. It was very easy to use and the color (the green stain) is beautiful. Very deep and rich. I did something unorthodox with the indigo stain. I wanted to stain some chairs and I wanted a blue stain. Just exactly the color of this indigo stain but it was indoor only. (The chairs were for outdoor use) I said what the heck. I was going to use outdoor varathane on them, so I figured they would be protected. So if the color would fade, I was OK with that. It hasn't faded so far.We also put up a gate we made with port orford cedar and I used the indigo stain on it. Looks beautiful. I also used four coats of outdoor varathane on the gate and fence we're putting up. It's a kind of art project. If you are someone who always follows the rules on packages, this wouldn't be for you. But this stuff goes on so easily (I used a spong brush) and a towel to wipe off the excess) and the result is terrific.

Express color, suitable for wood, but not a true stain.
We read the reviews and knew we were getting a tube that wouldn't cover an entire piece of furniture adequately. This was fine for us because we only wanted to treat a few 1' 4" x 1' lumber boards for a DIY project. As you'll see in our notes, this turned out to be true. In fact, we're not quite convinced the small side table in the product's packaging photo could truly reach that consistency and hue with a single tube, alone. But I digress- we wanted a water based finish that was fume free and beginner's friendly. We realize that in order for a finish to penetrate natural fibers properly and work as a stain solvents should be used. We also assume, if you are looking at this you want convenience over professionalism and are willing to make the compromise.Pros:*We searched high and low (4 different major, local, do it yourself style chains) and only found 2 options in our area for wood 'stain' in this color range. One was a much lighter seafoam green, and the other was only available in a can capacity intended to stain the entire side of a building. This water based colorant is suitable for crafting and minor DIYs, but a bit pricey when you consider the amount one tube covers. Since we were making gifts specifically for Green Bay Packers fans, this green was the closest match we could find, and very true to representation on the packaging and online.*No fumes- It's water based, so it is easy to clean up.*The end result, though it took some effort and patience, is a beautiful color we're not sure we could have achieved with paints. We are happy with the semi-translucency of the coats and how the character of the wood grain comes through.Cons:*Realize this is closer to a paint than a 'stain,' since it is water based you are more so rubbing the color along the surface than into the wood. This is not a stain and finish, you will want to treat your end result with a seal and shine lock, and should expect to see fading over time if left in contact with sun. The product will some out thick but spread thin, making it prone to blotching. We used a very soft, absorbent, buffing rag and slowly worked the color into the wood with small circular motions. Since the coloring sits on the surface of the wood, you will need to do this patiently, and evenly, and allow ample drying time between coats. We used 4 coats to achieve the results shown i our photos.*The single tube seems to disappear fast, and should NOT be bought in a single quantity with the intention of coloring a large, or even medium, sized piece of furniture.*Do not expect this to act as a stain in the sense of transparency- since it is water based you are not actually penetrating and staining the wood, simply coloring it. Some of the woods characteristics will come through, but the color will take dominance over grain and detail.*The tube seems to distribute in spurts, very unexpectedly and we often had air pockets or 'globs' shoot out on expression.Despite the seemingly larger list of cons, than pros- we're giving this product 4 stars because it performs as we expected when choosing a small container of water based 'stain.' The color came out beautiful with time and patience and the absence of fumes made it suitable for use near an open window- rather than requiring a backyard or free air space.

Incredibly Simple and Effective
I had to rebuild the rails that connect the headboard to the foot board so that my new adjustable bed base would fit inside the frame. That project took all day and the new rails are good looking red oak but I wanted to finish them in black to match the legs of the new base so they blend in.I didn't want to paint because I'd have to prime first and paint can chip so I used this stain, 3 coats at one hour intervals, to get a nice black....and I get to use my bed the same night. It was very easy to apply and not runny although I had covered everything with drop cloths. I highly recommend this.

Forget Squeezing The Tube
Like all Minwax products, Express Color Wiping Stain provides an easy, effective way to stain or color wood. But forget the instructions on the tube. After shaking well, REMOVE THE TOP COMPLETELY by unscrewing it. Don't even bother to try and squeeze the stain out... you'll end up making a mess. Slowly tilt the tube, placing a small amount on a clean soft rag. If you apply it directly to the wood you run the risk of creating a dark stain, depending on how quickly you begin to wipe and how porous the wood may be. Apply the stain to a rag and wipe on, spreading it out evenly. It does dry quickly, an hour or so to the touch, three to five hours for a second coat, overnight before using a clear coat or putting it into service.Cleanup is easy with hot water and dish soap. Finally, if you plan to wash the rag after use, be sure to wash it with other non-critical rags. Any color remaining in the rag can bleed into your other items in the wash.

Ok
Not what I expected, this is like thick water color, not at all like a oil based product, only thing I liked,,,on e you get used to the application principles, it goes on ok,,,just ok,,, looks better dry,, three coats and the finish is ok, but at that point it is like painting,,,,,,,,not staining. End finish,,,,ok....seems durable,,,once again.....ok .....product, just ok

Hard to find, and works great
I got this to stain a small project I was working on. It was hard to find this specific stain anywhere but Amazon. It works much better for what I was doing than your usual wood stain. Depending on your technique, you can end up with wood that looks like real walnut! I had so many people asking about how I made a trophy out of wood, but it was just 3D printed and stained with this!
