The best upgrade
This WiFi controller is awesome. It was easy to install on the smoker and it was easy to connect to the WiFi and blue tooth. I was able to log in and control my camp chef pellet smoker at wal mart, which is 10 miles from my house. It used 5G and my LTE cell service to connect when I was out of range from my WiFi. If you’re having problems. The problem is you not the PID WiFi controller.I have used my pellet smoker with the camp chef WIFI controller several times now and it's still as awesome as my first review. I fell asleep on the coach and my camp chef app on my phone reminded me the brisket I was smoking had reached its programmed temperature and was done. I would have over cooked the brisket if I hadn't used the camp chef WIFI controller.

Best upgrade I have made on my smoker
I was actually looking at replacing my smoker for a newer model with PID control until I found this upgraded controller. $200 for the controller, or $1400 fr a new smoker? Made sense to at least give it a try.Glad I did it.Ordered the controller and it was here on time. Opened the box and everything I needed was there. It even included a couple replacement screws if I needed them.Installation was super easy. Remove 6 screws, remove a cover plate & old controller, clip a zip tie and unplug the old controller. Plug the new controller into the labeled harnesses, zip tie the wires back together, replace the cover plate & controller with the 6 screws. Installed. Took about 15 minutes total.Setting up the WIFI and Bluetooth was super easy. Just install the app and follow the instructions. Lots of people have complained about WIFI signal, but I haven't experienced any issues with it. The app recognized that the controller needed some firmware updates and provided instructions to install those. That took a little longer, maybe 30-40 minutes total. Now that the controller was installed and updated, I fired up the smoker. Instead of the 15-25 degree temperature fluctuations I was used to seeing with the old controller, the PID controller held those to 5-10 degrees.I played with the smoke control. I did notice a slightly more amount of smoke coming out the stack. Temperatures did fluctuate a little more because the fan is running more often to produce more smoke, but it still never went more than 15-20 degrees. This controller saved me about $1200 on what I would've spent on a new smoker. If you have an earlier model Camp Chef grill/smoker and want tighter temp controls AND wireless monitoring of your smoker, this is a must have.

It's doing great so far!!
I've had my Camp Chef smoker for over 7 years, and it's done great until recently when the controller started shutting down unexpectedly. I decided to bite the bullet and go for the upgrade to the wifi controller, and I haven't been disappointed! The controller came quickly as advertised (Thanks Amazon!), and the install took 10 minutes, using the old the probe. I was able to connect to the controller via wifi and Bluetooth without any problems and it worked flawlessly, but I've occasionally had to re-establish the wifi connection. This is vexing, considering the wifi router is only 20 ft from the smoker.I've only used it twice so far, I've for steak (outstanding), and the chicken breasts were smoked beautifully! The camp chef app is needed to operate all the bells and whistles. Overall, I really like the app but there is a bit of a learning curve. You need to use the app to update the firmware, and it took a few tries to get it done but it works, so 👍.PROS:1. Ease of installation2. Reliable temp control, verified by independent thermometer.3. Ability to control the amount of smoke - This was a plus for me, but it's a trade off. The more smoke you want, the more temperature swings you get.4. Two meat probes (included) allow you to monitor more than one kind of meat.5. Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity is Da bomb!Cons:1. Price: It's kinda pricey ($215, vs. $69 for the standard controller), but it adds versatility2. I've had to reconnect the wifi a few times.Overall, I really like the upgraded controller, and recommend it if you can afford it!

I Hate It! Give Me Back the Original, Non-WiFi Version
This has never worked right. Setting temperature and smoke level is frustrating every time.1. Push the dial in until you get to "Set Temperature."2. Try to turn dial to set temperature. The monitor continues to scroll through Menu choices (Set Smoke; Shut Down; Feed, etc.)3. Come back around the menu to "Set Temperature" Try depressing the dial while turning. Nothing happens.4. Repeat until, for some unknown reason, the temperature setting actually shows and I can set the temperature. It might be easier on my phone. Unfortunately, I have never been successful in getting the controller to connect to my phone.I wish I had the original controller. It worked great for years - just spin the dial to the desired temperature and walk away. Too bad it stopped working.

Upgraded my Camp Chef Smoker - Great Buy!
This controller is amazing! My first generation smoker is now WiFi capable and completely temperature and smoke adjustable remotely. It was easily installed and connected flawlessly (once I figured out that I had to register the app). Have used it several times and really appreciate the convenience of watching the smoke process from any location, adjusting as necessary during the smoke, and setting timers and food temperatures on the app. Completely satisfied. Thank you Camp Chef for this fantastic upgrade!

Big upgrade from the original pit boss controller
I haven't had much time with it yet but so far it seems better at controlling the temperature.-WIFI / Bluetooth is a big deal for me-Probe ports over WIFI are easier than a separate meter-Adds smoke control, seems to work well so farOn high the BBQ hit 600F, but when I turn it off without letting the temp come down the pellets in the auger caught on fire. (original controller didn't seem to do that).I 3D printed a case to adapt the panel, I think that will allow the antenna on the circuit board to get better reception compared to cutting the panel into the metal. The RTD for this controller is different (and sold separately) it required some holes to be drilled in the deflector mount. see pics.
