Solar Flux, in its powder state before mixing with alcohol (methanol preferred), as a virtually infinite shelf life. In its powder state Solar Flux is unaffected by freezing, has no flash point, is non-flammable and non-explosive, and completely safe for transporting by air. A little flux goes along way, 2 oz. of flux, properly mixed and applied, covers about 80 lineal feet of joint. use Type B on Stainless Steel and High Chromium Alloys. Package of 1

Good savings over back purging
Have to say I didn’t expect to get nearly as much use out of this can as I have. When I brought up the idea to welders that I know, they said it ends up being more expensive than the Argon. Considering a bottle of argon is over 100 (125), it’s something to consider! A little can of this stuff at 80… is not exactly cheap. However, I’m not even halfway through the can, and I’ve used 4 bottles of argon so far. It most definitely is cheaper than back-purging everything. It definitely is good for thin sections if you want to butter them up, or build them up. And does prevent burn through. However, you need to pay attention, as it does appear to dirty up the weld considerably, if you lean on it. Hard to explain, and a video would do wonders but that’s a lot of effort for an Amazon review. If you want to do pipe welding, this can work as a substitute for back purge. I don’t know if I recommend it for all pipe welding though. If you go for a keyhole while using this stuff, it comes out pretty nasty as the flux wants to again come to the outer side of the weld. But with a heavy taper on the pipe edges, and a close fit up, with ample filler rod, you can get a nicer weld first try.If you need X-ray cleanliness without any cleanup, this is NOT for you. If you don’t mind getting in there with a wire wheel, this is a killer way to save some money. Personally I don’t mind doing a little clean up grind on the root pass, and on the inside of the weld so this is great. That just is how flux usually goes. It’s still better than say flux cored MiG. But it’s not the same as a high flow backpurge. Realistically a lot of stainless applications will do well with this. The powder doesn’t need methanol (some people or their instructions says it). I almost exclusively use isopropyl alcohol as it’s cheaper and easier to get here than methanol. Distilled water works as well, however it takes much much longer from application time to it being dry and ready to go. That’s why methanol or iso alcohol are better (they evaporate off). When you mix some up, get a nice consistent paste out of it. If you have extra you don’t use, leave it in the tin and just add alcohol or whatever. It will work again and again. Instructions say wait for the “reaction to occur” but I don’t think there is much if any reaction that occurs. It looks like it’s mostly just a matter of getting the powder to fully adsorb the liquid you use.So is it perfect? No. It’s flux. But does it work? Hell yeah.Definitely something everyone should keep in the bench/tool box as a backup, or in a pinch, or running low on gas etc etc.

Magic!
Sometimes you just can't back purge your part. When you can't, this stuff is magic. You will get better welds and cleaner back side of the weld. Simple to use and a pound will last most of us a lifetime. As long as it doesn't get wet, it keeps forever. Highly recommended for welding stainless trim and stainless exhaust.
