IMPRESSIVE 8"
So I have had my 8" JBL GTO804 running off a Rockford Fosgate P2.200 bridged 4ohms @ 200 watts RMS for about 2 months now. This system is not in my car, its for my bedroom. I have the amp running off a Rosewill PSU, paired with Klipsch KG4.2 running off a good ol' Yamaha receiver. I built my own box for this sub, not using the recommended ported enclosure. I designed mine using the 12volt.com subwoofer enclosure/port calculator. I have my enclosure tuned @ 35hz with .66 cubic feet of volume (including port/sub displacement). This sub in this box sounds amazing, great for all types of music, I mainly listen to dubstep, rap, R&B and pop. Very good sound quality from such a small sub. This sub in my enclosure moves quite a bit of air. Its got a 2" x 10" port. I threw a bag at the port while playing Bass Ballin - Bass Mekanik and the bag just stayed floating around in the port. For the price I don't think you can find a better 8" subwoofer. My friends got a Rockford Fosgate P1-2x12 and I could say this 8" is comparable to one of his 12's. Great hard hitting subwoofer, very clean, great SQ and efficiency (you don't need a lot of power to get this little 8 loud). One thing i was surprised at was that this has 11.5mm of Xmax (excursion) this is more than a Rockford Fosgate P1 12 (new model). The RF P1 12 has 9.4mm. That's embarrassing. Overall, I would highly recommend this subwoofer to anyone especially if you are tight on space. Not only is this subwoofer compact, but it can get pretty loud and sustain SQ!! Mine never distorts and i do crank it... trust me. Gets really low too ! AMAZING 8!! I will be saying good bye to this jbl gto804 in January 2013 though... I have pre-ordered the Sundown Audio E8v3, will be selling the JBL to my friend cause hes going to put 2 of these ported in his Millenia. GREAT SUB! SIZE DOESNT MATTER LOL. Just buy it !

The sub is better than the original JBL sub on my 2001 Toyota Avalon XLS
Using several on-line sources and forums, including ToyotaNation.com, Toyotaowners.net, and Amazon.com, I was able to get the original 12-year-old sub out in only 5 minutes. The heavy new sub dropped into the original speaker space in the back deck. You cannot use the original screen at all since it is too high. That was positioned above the original speaker using 4 small screws. You have to use the original "frame" sub-assembly because that hooks to the Toyota center mount stop light and grille assembly that covered the sub on the back deck. That frame was bolted to the back deck using 4 brass-colored 10mm bolts. You can easily get them out using a long socket and ratchet. The problem I had was trying to drill the holes and assemble the 8 screws AROUND the new sub without hitting the sub heavy-duty frame. Using my selection of screws, I finally decided to use 1.5" #6 screws and angle the holes in about a 30-45 degree from vertical. This was definitely a trail and error process. You have to get a small right angle drill to drill the holes very close to the back window and back deck. It would help to have a buddy watch the holes and the clearance to new sub frame when you are drilling them. Since I was by myself, you have to come back into the trunk area to examine your work for every hole/screw when you are putting them in order. For me, it was about 2.5 to 3 hours to learn this process via trial and error. If you do this process, you could do it within an hour with practice. The new sub is MUCH BETTER than the original JBL sub. The old paper sub was totally busted and the new sub has a good rubber surround and much better cone materials. I purchased it on 5-NOV-2012 from Amazon.com for $47.07 with free ground shipping. The speaker came to my place on 7-NOV-2012 at ~7PM! Fabulous shipping job and the package was totally intact without any problems at all. Typical Amazon.com job!The Amazon.com site has very good prices for this item. Crutchfield.com has a price of $79.95 on this exact item with free shipping. I could have bought this same item from Techronics.com for around $50.00, but their freight charges were about $18.00. Several people in the Toyota forums have had firms "re-foamed" their speakers for $40-50 each . . . for a 12-year-old speaker?? Really?? When this speaker relaxes more, it will perform much better than the original JBL paper 8" sub-woofer. I'm totally happy with this new sub. Amazon.com has a good price and definitely superior shipping service to my area.

I Want to be 12 When I Grow Up!
This little 8" sub truly wants to be a 12" sub when it grows up, though realistically it can't. But that doesn't stop it from doing its level best to deliver performance greater than its measured size.I needed to replace an 8" sub in my sub-tube and thoroughly read every review I could here on Amazon. I noticed that the lowest rating for this little sub was four stars. Though it was a bit more pricey than many of the other 8" subs, it was still what I expected to pay for a quality replacement. As soon as I lifted it out of the box I was struck by its mass and weight. It was nearly 3-4 times heavier than my previous sub, no doubt due to its massive magnet. That was my first indication that I had made the right choice. It fit perfectly into my Pyle Tube (PLTAB8)without any modification. Yeah, I know. Plenty of reviews have trashed the Pyle but I actually enjoyed very decent sound from my Pyle for over 3 years. Anyway, ever since I plopped the JBL into the tube and connected it to my system, I can't seem to take this smile off my face.I'm going through every song on my iPod as if it's the first time I'm hearing it. Sure, this sub gives a really nice thump but it's more than that. It's not just the bass notes but even the lower registers from other instruments are rich and full. Stuff I wasn't hearing before. So if you're looking for a sub that can break your windows and blow your doors off, get yourself a pair of twelves. But if you want your system to deliver great bottom that's rich, full and fat, this little fella is the ticket. It's not a 12 or even a 10, but I'd wager that it's more 8 than you'll get from any other 8.
