I've used these filters before with a cloth respirator-type mask and they were very reliable. I'm rating these a 4 because I am not a scientist so I cannot speak to the technical aspects. But as a mere civilian, I can say I have been using these for long while in my masks, which I still wear daily at work and in crowds, and I have only gotten sick one time due to being stuck on a train next to someone who was quite ill.
