105. The Weeknd's beautiful madness
If the publicity garnered is in any way indicative of an artist's relevance and success, then The Weeknd will soon become a household name. Following on from his No. 1 smash "Can't feel my face", and recent blazing - literally - performance at the VMAs, The Weeknd presents "Beauty behind the madness". Evidently, it is not only his most accessible set so far, but, also, a compelling crossover album. Sonically, it is a much bigger departure from his past work than most of his older fanbase would like it to be. Abel Tesfaye (real name), not the same self-destructive, depressed 20 year-old anymore, but now in a better place, is true to himself and remains consistent. The material is raw and honest, the production always on point, the lyrics still dark and cynical, the delivery mesmerising and haunting as ever. With many references to his previous work, this is hardly the watered-down generic pop album all those negative comments over the internet are speculating. Real artists are supposed not to ever sit stagnant. No legendary artist made music that sounded the same. The Weeknd is experimenting, expanding, opening himself to a new demographic. It is all about progress. He is, also, trying to become monumental. He sure has all it takes to become a contemporary megastar. In fact, with this very record he gives traditional pop a foundational makeover, one that has not happened since the times of Prince and Michael Jackson! His sound is radically different; but his message has not changed, only the way it is delivered. Still suicidal, sassy, sensual and scandalous, but always seductive and startling, The Weeknd's "Beauty..." looks set to soar.

Brilliant....a fantastic talent.
Absolutely love this guys voice and music. I only discovered him last year and brought all his albums. You can just sit with your eyes closed and the music and voice takes you away, or in the car it is a joy to have on. My husband was a bit sceptical when I first put his music on as I do have very varied taste but he loves it just as much as I do. This album is superb, the Earned It song from Fifty Shades was a taster of what was to come.

Glad I gave it a try
I've been disillusioned with modern rnb for many years, nothing seemed to come close to the heyday of the 90s - I'm glad there seem to be a handful of artists doing something a bit more interesting than most.I won't say this is my favourite album of all time, but after hearing about the the weeknd but not actually listening to any of his music, I kept hearing tracks on the radio (I don't listen to radio much) so I thought I'd take a chance. I'm enjoying it so far and it Def has that 'something'. Having grown up listening to gangsta rap I'm surprised his use of the F word and b*tches bothered me a little but I feel like it doesn't quite fit with the vibe of some of the songs and feels a little misogynistic. But I didn't want to buy the censored version.I may well try out his earlier stuff as i read it's slightly different to this one.

Very good gifts and both CDs are just
Bought a second copy of this album, as I did with The Weeknd's latest album "Starboy"! Very good gifts and both CDs are just...I can't stop listening to them!! Especially "Starboy", which - for me personally - rivals the quality of albums like M.J.'s "Thriller", 'Bruno Mars' "Unorthodox Jukebox" & even Maitre Gims' 2CD "Subliminal/La Face Cachée", amongst others...! But "Beauty Behind The Madness" is where the real greatness of The Weeknd actually begins, for me, at least!

Having bought his last album (Kissland) 'in error' I was more than happy to keep it and come back for this one (advert persuasion sent me looking for this one in the first place) This album has great beat to it, every song effortlessly stunning. Listening to this album you get lost in your own world. Gorgeous music. NB Not to be listened to with kids around - keep this one all to yourself!

Gorgeous voice, beautiful tunes. Really interesting to see how this artist is developing and growing. Definitely not one to have on in the car while driving your mother in law to an appointment though. What kind of idiot would do that? Ahem. Also not one to put on in the multiple occupancy office you work in.

Brilliant album
I already own this on Spotify, but as I do not have an aux connection in my car, I just had to grab it on CD. I enjoyed the less popular Trilogy (first 3CD album The Weeknd released I believe), but this album exceeds all expectations. The whole album is sensational, not just the singles that have been released on the radio.
