Finally! a display port to dvi adapter that will drive an old school cinema display at 2560x1600. I plugged the addapter into my evga 1080 graphic card, plugged the usb power dongle into a usb port on back of my computer, then plugged the monitor cord into the adapter and SUCCESS! the cinema monitor now shows up on my windows 'display settings' (right click desktop to open)in the attached picture, the apple cinema display on the right is directly connected to the graphic card and the diplay on the left is connected through the adapter.there's one odd thing that happens, when first starting up the computer or waking from sleep, the adapter-connected monitor will flash black three times. maybe this is related to how it draws power from the usb? it scared the crap out of me the first time it happened, but after the three flashes to black, that monitor functions flawlessly for as long as the computer is on.i'm so happy that this product works! now i don't have to have an extra graphic card heating up my computer! the internal temps are cooler. also, freed up a couple pci slots to use for other things.this adapter isn't cheap, but it works--so worth every penny, in my opinion. :)ps--if playing games, i use the monitor directly connected to the graphic card. so i have no idea if the adapter would effect fps/quality.4 MONTH UPDATE: adapter still does the "flash black" a couple times when turned on, but then works flawlessly. seems to have no adverse effect when playing games on another monitor plugged directly into the same graphic card, no lose of framerate, etc. I'm very happy!

Tried to cheap out on another "active" DP to DVI dual-link adapter that did not work and would not successfully make a dual-link connection. That one resembled a passive adapter and was ~1/3 the price of this StarTech unit, I think it was just a passive adapter marketed as active knowing that ~70% of customers won't know the difference within the return window.After an hour of testing on different systems and monitors I had available, I gave up, returned that part, and ordered this one. Worked immediately, no frustration whatsoever.One thing I was surprised about is that this unit feels higher quality than it looks in the photos. The matte casing looked like cheap plastic to me in the photos but handling the unit it feels like painted cast aluminum. Much higher quality, and everything feels tight and solid.It's expensive but you get what you pay for.Edit: something else I noticed that may matter to a small percentage of users is this adapter does not pass DDC/CI commands. It does provide EDID info, however. This impacts me because I use ddcutil on linux to swap monitor inputs when going between systems.

I used this adapter with an Acer GN246HL to get the full 144hz refresh rate after replacing my GPU. It was easy to use and I did get the full 144hz refresh rate. The main issue I had was with the monitor the screen would go blank for a quarter/half a second randomly. After it happened a few times I decided it wasn't worth keeping it so I returned it. Maybe a more expensive adapter wouldn't have this issue or maybe it is just the monitor. I ended up upgrading my monitor to a different one.TLDR: Worked well just not with the Acer GN246HL

Adapter works. I have used the adapter for a month and I am getting 144HZ. No need to set the refresh rate every time windows boots, it's always set to 144. Had the monitor for a year, I changed cards and I haven't noticed a difference. I use a Asus VG278HE which only does 144HZ over DVI-D Dual Link.

I have Dell U3011 display.This model has known issues with its DisplayPort input:- it does not turn off on blank command- manually powering it off is registered as disconnecting the device.So, I've been using my Dell U3011 monitor via DVI, in 2560x1600 @ 60Hz.It worked flawlessly with while I was driving it with my Nvidia 1070GTX card.I picked up a new card, an Nvidia 3060RTX, and it seems in its infinite wisdom, Nvidia decided to issue this card without a DVI port.So, I either ditch the card, or, the monitor, or ...?I've searching the internet for a solution and I found a recommendation for an active repeater.And that took me to this particular product.I ordered two of these repeaters right away.I did not have high expectations from a device like this, but I was pleasantly surprised for two reasons:- having plugged it in, it worked right away, (device was auto-detected, resolution I had to set manually to 2560x1600@60Hz though, which is okay),- the picture quality is identical to that seen using the direct DVI cable.That's the good news.The bad news is, as I started to play games - Fallout 4 for example - the picture randomly disappears.2-15 secs here and there and it seems completely random.I figured it's good that I bought two of these, maybe this one has issues and the other one will work.So, I went and plugged in the other one hoping for the best.Well, that's not the case. Both adapters exhibit the same issue, they both blank the screen randomly, making any attempts at gaming an extremely bad experience.So, in conclusion, if you want to use this for desktop use (browsing, office, design, etc.), by all means, go for it, it is working great!However, if you would like to use your computer for 3D games, you will be disappointed.I took off three stars because while it works, it cannot be used for the intended purpose and with that, it's merely a super-expensive paperweight.
