Amazing invention
I’m so glad I found these!!!! I commute to work all year and got fed up with triple-gloving in the winter, losing all dexterity, and my hands would still get cold. I broke some fingers last year, and now they get so painful in cold weather. But with these bar mitts, I’ve found I can wear a thin pair of cheap knit gloves and my fingertips only get slightly cold but not uncomfortably so. I’ve worn them in weather that was 20s-40s so far. You could wear a slightly thicker glove and be toasty warm. If you stick your arm out to signal a lot (I do), it takes just a few times to get used to sliding your hand back in the mitts on a corner, versus putting it straight back on the bar. But it’s not hard to learn if you don’t panic and are fairly comfortable on your bike. I am so happy I bought these. I am an average sized female and size M in just about all things, and size M in these was perfect. They fit just fine over my Trek Domane handlebars and shifting/braking is not an issue because they’re flexible so they just flex with the movement of your shifters. They have reflective writing on the outside which helps with visibility at night, because they do block the side view of my front light since they’re so big. I took them off on a snowy day while my bike sat outside, so they wouldn’t be wet on the trip home. But they are so easy to install and remove, it only took a couple seconds. My husband said they look goofy and was a naysayer at first, but now that I’ve stopped complaining about my cold hands, he’s also a fan.

High-quality simple solution for cold weather riding
I’ve been riding seriously for the past 15 years and I was looking for something that might be better than just wind-blocking gloves. Being in the Bay Area CA, we’re lucky to only have temps dip into the 30s F on the coldest evenings of the year, with most daytime temps in the 50s at least. These are perfect with my summer riding gloves, even a bit warm. With a bit of fiddling, these can be set up to ride a bit lower on the bars, which opens up the tops more vertically (in other words, instead of covering the top/front quadrant at a 90* angle, it’s a bit less than that, rotated a bit more forward if that makes sense) which lets the steamy hot air out more easily, lowering the temp and humidity level inside of the mitts. I’ve also discovered that if one doesn’t put the horizontal portions of the mitts through the enclosed Velcro portion (makes more sense with them installed), they can be opened up wider horizontally such that hands can be positioned on the flat portions of the bar and still be somewhat protected by the mitt. They don’t look dorkier than anything else I wear to stay comfortable on a bike for hours at a time, and I don’t even think they look half bad personally. They’re certainly made from quality materials and assembled well. I’m confident that they’ll last years.Overall, it’s a smart and simple product that works well and seems like it will last years. I’m happy that they exist.

I will never part with my Bar Mitts
Last winter I endured frigidly cold bike rides in 20 degree temps and would often have to cut my rides short due to the intensity of the pain in my fingers which would leave them feeling like they were on fire. Wearing two pairs of gloves still didn't solve the problem. Last month I came across this product when I was searching for gear for cold weather biking, and I thought I'd give the mitts a try as I wanted to continue riding throughout the winter. Suffice it to say, after trying Bar Mitts, I will never again leave home without them when I'm riding in freezing weather. Today I set off on a 34-mile ride with my Bar Mitts attached to my bike for the first time. When I left my house, the temperature was 25 degrees, and during the course of my ride, it eventually got to about 34 degrees. At the start of my ride, I was wearing a pair of cycling gloves rated for temps in the upper 30s-40s. I inserted my hands into the Bar Mitts and waited to see if they would really work. The first few miles of my ride my fingertips felt a little cold, but nothing like they used to feel without the Bar Mitts. Before I reached my fifth mile, my hands were actually toasty warm, and they stayed that way for the remainder of my ride!! This product is a Godsend, and I can't recommend it highly enough for cyclists who don't want to give up riding during the winter months. For reference, I am a 5'6" woman and weigh 136 lbs. I ordered the medium size, and they fit perfectly. I had been debating whether or not to get the large size, but I think the smaller holes on the medium size helped insulate my hands more, and I had no difficulty operating the gears or brakes.

Kept hands warm
Worked great! It gets cold here in Michigan. And these make bike riding in less than desirable conditions more tolerable. Husband wears XL gloves and these fit well

Better than gloves or mittens - they keep hands very warm at higher speeds
PROS:Every pair of gloves and mittens I have used could not keep my finger warm on faster 30-minute rides at higher road speeds. I almost gave up on cold rides until I tried the Bar Mitts. For example, today, the temperature in Michigan was in the mid-40s F with a strong head-wind. I wanted to start my ride into the wind - but I knew that my fingers would have gone numb with good gloves after a few minutes (I get cold fast). But with gloves inside the Bar Mitts, my hands stayed very warm. When necessary, I pulled my gloved hands out to the Bar Mitts to go to the drops. The material used in the Bar Mitts is appropriately thick - which is important for its purpose. They chose the right material for Bar Mitts, in my opinion.MINOR CONS:It is hard to shift the gears from the outside drops with the Bar Mitts, but it's easy to insert your hand into the Bar Mitt to shift then pull back to the drops. Also, it is harder to grab the brakes from the outside. These drawbacks are minor compared to a frozen fingers event.I highly recommend these for riders that struggle with numb fingers from road biking on cold days. Now if I can just find some shoe covers that are made of the same material to keep my feet warm on rides.
