Educational but a LOT of fun
If you are over 50 you will likely remember the TV panel show Call My Bluff. Wordsmithery very definitely taps in to the theme of the show and was an instant nostalgia hit. Each card gives you two words with three, very brief, suggestions of meanings for each one. Flip the card over and it gives you the correct answer and also an example of usage. Super simple and because it is a flip the card for the answer you don't need to necessarily have a question master.I will be quite honest, we didn't even try scoring the game when my husband and I tried it out. We decided to go all out and really embellish the suggestions for a word meaning and really fall down the nostalgia rabbit hole. This is a really good way to increase your vocabulary without feeling like you are learning. Would be great for long trips to get everyone off their devices and engaging with each other. In my mind's eye I can see the front seat passenger reading the word and clues out and the back seat passengers trying to figure out the meaning. Not the cheapest card game option out there but if you enjoy trivia games this one will definitely be for you!

A game to get you thinking
Brought for a family games night and to help the family learn some new words. We had a lot of fun playing this and there are cards for children and adults. We had ages from 15- 83 playing so a good mixed ability and we all enjoyed guessing the meaning of the words.

Good fun for wordy nerds
Loved the extra set of questions for younger players, so the whole family could play together. However, as a serious pedant, I found myself disagreeing with some of the 'correct' answers.

Superb and witty word game...
What a superb and witty game. Ideal for adults, teenagers, vocabulary enthusiasts, lovers of lexica, book worms or just those who enjoy teasing their brains. A merry game to while away a Sunday afternoon with family and friends. The perfect amuse bouche for pre-dinner entertainment or post-dinner word play . Wordsmithery has provided me with hours of enjoyment and has reignited my passion for words. If words are your thing, you might also enjoy the brilliant book “How to sound clever” which is a great companion to this game. Very much my “go to” gift for Xmas and birthday presents. Enjoy.

Fun and challenging for all
This is a game similar to one our family have played at Christmas for at least three generations. In our version each player takes it in turn to choose a slightly obscure dictionary word, and everyone else writes their own definition, and the "correct" and "incorrect" ones are mixed and read by the "chooser". Everyone else votes for what they think the definition is, and points are earned accordingly. This game is a more organised way of playing but along similar lines. We have played it as directed, and also used the cards instead of the dictionary to find suitable words. Recommended for fun, a challenge and to enrich your word power.

Fun game but we ended up changing the rules to ...
Fun game but we ended up changing the rules to come up with the funniest meaning - most of the words we'd never heard of!

Great for children and adults alike.
I bought this game primarily to play with my nine-year-old grandchild and we have had lots of fun playing it. Her vocabulary is very good and therefore she finds it really encouraging to play this game. But I have also played it with an adult friend and that proved to be great fun too - lots of laughter and some enjoyable embarrassment as we found we didn’t know the exact meaning of quite as many words as we thought we did.. It’s beautifully packaged and very attractive and will make a great present for Christmas. I shall be ordering some more!
