Finally fixed my mower!
My dad borrowed my Craftsman riding mower and hit a large rock, shattering the rotary housing and bending the shaft. Did some research and found this for half the price on Amazon compared to the brick and mortar stores. The bolts were seized in the broken part and I had to cut them off. The new parts came with all new hardware and installed easily with some basic mechanical know-how. A bit of advise, remove the pulley on top first while blocking the blade. If you remove the blade first, it's impossible to take the pulley off. The new bearings also run smoother and are noticeably quieter than the side with the old rotary. My yard is a acre and 1/4, so far it's held up to 4 mowings and still works great! I might buy another one and do the other side too so it'll be just as quiet!

Can't go wrong
Fits my Craftsman 42 inch deck perfectly. The previous owner must have let the blade come loose so the star part on the spindle was all worn out. It still worked OK but bugged me each time I sharpened the blades. For less than $20 I was able to replace the whole spindle and not worry about it again. Worst part was getting the belt off and on and putting the deck lift linkage back on after removing it to hit the pulley nut with an impact. The old mounting bolts snapped off in the aluminum housing, no worries since new ones come with the spindle. If you don't have an impact, it might be more of a pain getting the blade and pulley nuts off, but with the right tools the whole job took less than 30 minutes.

Good product after I fixed a couple things the manufacturer forgot to do.
Not bad for the price, but the design/assembly could use some improvements.I have bought 4 of these over the past few years. The biggest problem is that the bearings are not pressed or locked into the aluminum housing in any way. Over time, the bearing start to spin within the housing cause the aluminum to wear, thus making it unusable. Was this design possibly used as a way to sell more of them? That's not good for business in the long run.I was able to (hopefully) make them last longer by using Loctite 680 to hold the bearings in the housing Loctite 638 will also work. IMO, this should have been done by the manufacturer. I also use antiseize on all the hardware to make replacing them easier. Steel bolts screwed into aluminum causes corrosion due to dissimilar metals reacting. Antiseize will prevent this.Aside from those little shortcomings, they seem to be holding up well so far.

What You Need to Know About These Spindles.
Impressive quality for the price. I mow about 2-1/2 acres of fast growing grass about weekly. Takes me about 3 hours at 3 MPH. About 7-8 months a year. So that's about 100 hours a year. So these get used. Bearings are Chinese, but the last set of Spindles finally stripped the pulley teeth off the shaft after about 500 hours of mowing but the bearings were still smooth. Several things to do to make these spindles last: 1) The threads are purposely undersized. Read below all the ones that "self-tap". As If. Be sure to chase the tapped holes clear through 3X with a starting tap 5/16 from both sides. Use WD-40 to lube the tap. If you don't the casting will crack eventually at the bolt hole. 2) Make sure you use a copper anti-seize compound on the 5/16 threads or you will have to break off the bolt heads to remove the old spindles next time. 3) The new bolts don't come with 5/16 split lock washers. Make sure you put them there. 4) Last make sure when you install the pulley you take all the slack out of the shaft so there is no up/down play on the shaft after the the pulley is bolted down. 5) Remember the sharpened side of the blade goes "UP"! I already bought spares, too cheap not have a set when you need them. Yes, the new mower belt is a tight fit at first, but it will stretch to the perfect size.

Good value for the price.
Arrived on time and was as described. Not difficult to install once you get the broken one off. So far it’s holding up fine and operates as it should. I would recommend it and will but it again if needed.

Nice quality
Purchased for Craftsman LT 1000 after going yo sears and realizing the manufacturers part would cost me nearly 75.00 after shipping AND take a week to arrive. I couldn't wait that long and the price seemed steep. Amazon prime to the rescue. Quality is incredibly similar to the original part. Very heavy duty. Weight is the almost the same. Have not installed yet and will update when I do and after use.Update-My husband seemed to have no issue putting the new part on. Fit as it should. Have used the mower at least 6 times since and have had no problems. Happy with our purchase. Will update again if this part happens to fail.Update #2Used all through the 2018 spring and summer without fail. No regrets with this purchase!

Perfect Bolt On Replacement
Bolted right in! I used an impact wrench to get everything off. Broke some bolts but the new spindle comes with replacements, and its the easiest way to get the 3/4" bolt off the spindle. Once the deck was clear of the spindles I did a thorough cleaning, repair, and put it all back together.Welded a broken mount on the deck and repaired some holes. Most importantly check your mounting points for cracking at the weld base metal interface. The sheet metal gets pretty thin after years of use, rust and wear. Its an easy fix the deck on a couple of saw horse and some washers or small pieces of sheet metal as fill material.I also got the best deal through Amazon for my money. A local repair shop wanted $60 each for the exact same spindle. I waited 1 more day and got two for that price.I bought my mower used in 05 and this was the biggest fix. When you spin those blades up for the first time on new spindles, you'll notice the sound!
