While the instructions tell you to oil the wood regularly, mine came bone dry! So I applied Boos oil top, bottom and sides, and let it soak in over two nights. Now I just oil it after every wheel. The wood itself is of good quality. The groove around the edge is for the optional plastic dome but it is roughly routed and collects a lot of rind debris which makes it a bit cumbersome to keep clean. And, lastly, with great quality wood base, stainless steel fins, threaded rod and cutter, I would expect the hand knob to be wooden. It is not. It is plastic :-(
