I was skeptical, and almost decided to just use the bypass plug, but while our city water is actually pretty good, it does taste better in the ice cubes and door dispenser when using the filter - it's practically as good, if not an edge better, than the Brita counter filter/pitcher use were using.My only gripe here is not with the filter itself but with the LG fridges that use this filter and the shelf that usually sits too close to the filter spot. This makes changing the filter a bigger pain (effort, door open time, shelf and stock shuffling) that it really should be for us, and I would highly suspect based on having witnessed hundreds of stocked refrigerators in my life that it's a pain for most -- to the point that I would not be surprised if the plug insert is most often the option used by most owners - meaning that the air and water filters may not be the bonus added ongoing income LG and the copy-cat filter markets had expected. These work for us and the Amazon Pantry makes both these filters worth it, but will be a consideration when or if we get another refrigerator - no matter the brand.
