Coconut Pie Fragrance Orchid - Maxillaria Tenuifolia - Very Easy to Grow (NOT in Bloom When Shipped)

I never ordered from this company nor have I ever brought a plant online (funny), so I really didn't know what to expect. I e-mail this company when my plants didn't arrive and I was immediately contacted and assured that they will arrive and if they were damage they would replace. I live in an area that is about to snow real bad soon. Well it took a little longer than I expected. However, the plants arrived and was I surprise these plants are good looking no dead or brown leaves, they were standing tall. I took photos of these plants, they arrived in there own pot and medium. I took the plants out the pot and the roots look good and strong. I replace some of there medium with my own which is similar to what they arrived in, but I soaked my medium. I used a little orchid food. Well this is my first time with orchids and I bought books and watch videos. Pray for me and my plant beautiful and health growth and especially lots of flowers. I would buy from them again and again.

This little orchid is SO cute and compact. It came potted in a little 2in pot with sphagnum moss as the growing medium. After fluffing the dry moss up a bit to create some more air flow (I don't know why these nurseries pack the moss so tight), I noticed that two of the roots fell off leaving the plant with only one root and the rhizome. Since I don't have experience with ordering plants online, I had no clue what to expect when this plant arrived. This was a completely new experience for me. I'm happy that I put trust in this nursery because I'm very happy with my purchase. The pseduobulbs aren't destitute and are nice, full, and healthy looking. The leaves are bright green and firm. I'm growing her indoors, but she's hanging in a east-southeast facing windows with plenty of light, heat, and humidity. We shall see. I'll update soon. The shipping was IMMACULATE btw! Very very happy right now.

Looks like it was cut right before sending it out. I wish it had new root growth before selling. I suggest only experienced growers buy it as it is basically a fresh cutting packed, planted in orchid media. I love this orchid, it has a chocolate, coconut, mint vanilla smell. So if it survives and bloom after a few years it will be worth the moneyUpdate, it is still alive and doing well!

Finally received the cutting, after almost 4 weeks. Cutting was small, with 3 withered pseudobulbs & roots that were extremely dry. I immediately repotted it & kept it moist for the first week, hoping to rehydrate the roots. However 1 month later, the plant began losing all of its leaves & the pseudobulbs, which had barely plumped up, began to turn black. As I am fairly new to ochid growing & this was my first experience with this species, I'm not sure if the problem is on my part or that of the grower. I did everything that I could find online as to how to treat this species, but I'm affraid that it was too far gone from the beginning.I will however try ordering from this company again due to all of the great reviews that I read.

This product was a much better plant than my ordered dendrobium kinganum, Though both plants were just taped to cardboard this plant was a lot more developed and was able to survive the trip/shipment in good shape. I'm satisfied with this order. Got my money's worth. Nothing extra mind you but I'm ok with this order. Thank you.

Love my maxillaria orchid!! It arrived as a small plant, very green, healthy, clean and well packed in the box. I was very happy with it. Soon after I received the orchid it started growing new leaves and about 8 months later it grew a flower. I was SO happy about the flower. It looks so different from my other orchids and it smells delicious!!! It's a very sweet, coconut scent. It took me a little bit to figure out what this orchid likes since it's not like the Phalaenopsis orchids sold in stores. A quick Google or Youtube search about this type of orchid will teach you what it likes and how it should be cared for. Great purchase, would buy again from this seller.

I thought this orchid would be larger for the pricr. It will be quite awhile before this will bloom. Also the packaging was funky, shredded newspaper, and no instructions.

This review is for the Maxillariella tenuifolia, aka Coconut Pie Orchid, which was delivered May 5th. The seller said in the description it would not arrive in bloom. I was not expecting it to bloom only 10 days later, so that was a pleasant surprise! The bloom is delicate and tiny, about an inch across and has a unique coconut fragrance. Such a fun addition to my orchid collection!
