After cutting away the bottom surface flat and using metal shears to cut off the pin on both ends, I was able to pull out the pin in one piece despite it being curved inside.I added some shoe glue to the bottom so it won’t be a permanent bond, but will remain in place mounted as on a wall.Pretty good deal.

Great compass for attaching to backpack straps or jacket. I got some for deer hunting and tracking. I often zone out and get into looking at tracks and sign, easily turned around on cloudy days, and my phone app sometimes flips out in remote areas. This is a good cheap additional tool right there for quick glances and comfort. I got 2 to check their accuracy and they mtch my main Brunton compass, though they react to eachother and/or anything else with any sort of magnetics, to be expected. I plan to get more and give them to friends. Don't just trust your apps!

The compass points north pretty accurately. It matched the north direction with the phone. The two pictures show that even if you re-orient the compass it still points to the same direction.Otherwise, the only thing that could be improved is the pin. It would be helpful if the pin could be removed so you can set the compass on a table using the silicon base that it has.Tip: The compass (like other ones) is affected by electrical systems. If you try to use it near something that has electricity or battery (like a smart phone, tv, etc.), it will not pint to the north accurately. Just keep that in mind if you get it. You can put it next to your smart phone and watch the north dial move.

I failed to believe the many low star ratings for this product. MY bad. As others said these compasses are defective and could or would result in serious navigation errors. I had put some in my truck emergency kits before properly examining the products. Believe it or not these compasses will pick a random direction for north. If I place three of them on flat surfaces(separated by several feet) I will end up with three different picks for north.NOT ONLY DO I NOT RECOMMEND THIS I ASK YOU PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

I ordered two compasses from the same company, and they don't align with each other or with the compass app on my phone

I saw someone recommend these that I hold in regard - I thought it was kind of gimmicky. It's NOT. I love it and bought 3 for all of my backpacks. I love just being able to glace down at it and always having a bearing. Keeps me from constantly looking at my phone in hilly country where it's easier to get slightly off course.
