Useful for making oid computers work with new displays
I got this to connect my 2006 Mac Mini to a DisplayPort KVM; the Mini has built-in DVI. This unit seamlessly converts the signal and outputs it over a standard DisplayPort cable to either a monitor, or to the KVM. It's powered by USB, so make sure you have a USB port on your computer you can devote to that. For me, this solved the problem nicely and works great.

Actually works!
DVI to DisplayPort adapters are not easy to find. Tried a couple and they didn't work. This one works great!

USB power cord needs to be longer
It gets the job done but the USB power cord is way too short. Needs to be twice as long.

Works great. Allows me to connect second computer to quality monitor.
Works great. It was a little more expensive than I anticipated, but it allowed me to connect two computers to a higher quality monitor (one with HDMI and one with DVI). I switch between them using the change inputs buttons on the monitor.

This lets you connect an old DVI plug signal to a new DisplayPort monitor or KVM
I often have trouble connecting old signal sources like VGA or in this case DVI to new monitors that do not have this plug this adapter will let you use a modern monitor with old computer devices. I used this thing 2K and 60 HZ refresh on a DisplayPort monitor from a DVId signal source and it works on a 4K compatible DisplayPort KVM I'm very happy.

Works Great!
My old 50" LCD TV had a DVI input, but I bought a new 60" plasma with only HDMI and component video inputs. Decided to buy this converter instead of a new video board for the old XP media center PC. It worked straight out of the box, and using VLC for DVDs and XBMC for DVD ISOs and everything else (XVID, X264, etc.), I couldn't be happier. The audio attenuation is a bit much, but I can deal with that in other ways.

Went bad after a year of fuzziness and poor signal recognition
Bought this sometime in 2020 but this thing has been on it's way out for a while. I was actually hoping it was my monitor so I had an excuse to upgrade it, but finally this thing has crapped out.It started with a fuzzy picture, then at some point it stopped sending enough of a signal to my monitor to let it know something was happening. I have a startech KVM as well so I can connect my work laptop and my desktop up to the same dual monitor mouse/kb and in order for that monitor to show anything, I would have to flip it back to my laptop to get the monitor to turn on, then flip it back to my desktop, then the picture would show. If the monitor was off when I powered on my desktop, the one monitor would not wake up.And then now, it has died and won't come back on at all. Star tech seems to be one of the bigger names in a lot of these niche products, but seems their quality is a little shaky, thats the feeling I get. Going to try another brand that costs about half as much, can't really get worse.

Isn't Technology Supposed to be Simple???
This unit sorts out the annoying issue of connecting a Computer with a Display Port to a Monitor with one!I don't know why this is an issue as you and connect a Display Port (in a computer) to a Monitor with HDMI but not the other way around! And while you can buy a cable with the two ends it only works one way (And most store people don't know that it only works one way!).So in short, GREAT PRODUCT - Does what it's supposed to do quickly and easily!Still no idea why this isn't something that all Computer/Electronics stores don't have on the shelf though.
