This strut works fine to keep the hood open.
Just like it should have been from the factory. Easy to install and works great.

Works as intended.
MK8 Golf RPart installed within 10 minutes. Parts are cheap especially the plastic piece that you screw into. However it does the job. Keep in mind that you will need to pull back your hood liner.

Perfect fit
Easy to install. Volkswagen even provided the firewall mounting ball already in place. Apparently this strut is standard equipment on the more upscale models than my base model GTI.Instantiation took about 10 minutes.One thing: There is a washer included to "fill in" the space around the oversize mounting hole in the hood. This will insure that the hood mount won't shift. This was not covered in the install video (or I missed it).Anyway it is holding position and I don't think washer omission on my car will cause any problems.My Mechanic said he appreciated the addition of the gas strut.

Inoperable Strut
I did want to like this strut, however the strut itself would seize when attempting to lift my hood. I attempted to u install and reinstall again and the hood would go down but you couldn’t lift it back up. Be aware when doing so instead of blindly trusting that the strut will operate properly when popping the hood.Luckily I tested my hood hallway down and then attempted to lift it unsuccessfully, otherwise I wouldn’t have known about this.

Works as advertised
The reason I am leaving a four star review is because some of the mounting materials seem a bit cheap. This is not the same as the racing line or other name, brand mounts and has an included ball joint stud that needs to be mounted into the hood, which is different than the other name brand styles that mount directly to existing latch bolt. There are also other kits on other merchant sites that offer probably this exact same gas strut for 10 to $20 less. But this was very easy to install and definitely does the job that it is advertising.
