Works, and is all you need for a quick vacation
Yo this SIM card kinda saved my rear in Japan. I popped it into my Nothing Phone1 right when I landed and it just, like, worked; no drama . I didn’t even need to talk to anybody or whatever. 3GB in Japan was enough for maps, Insta, and texting the bois while there for a week, tho the data was kinda weak in kobe. Not super fast speeds everywhere, but decent enuff. Only thing that tripped me up was the instructions, they were a little confusing. Also I wish they made it more clear about the SMS stuff because I was tryin to text my mom and it didn’t go thru lol. Still, solid move if you’re gonna be in Japan for a bit and don’t wanna deal with verizon or tmobile fees from home.

Rakuten sim card works great!
The last time I visited Japan, my US phone did not work well except in places like hotels where I could log in to a private network; Japan does not have a very good public wifi infrastructure. My wife just took a trip to Japan to visit family, so I got her this sim card. She said it works great: "Rakuten sim card works just like pocket Wifi. You can even get Japanese phone number."

High-quality connection and great for phone with physical SIM slots
This SIM was great for ensuring we had high-speed data during our trip to Japan! Do make sure your phone takes a physical SIM card first - the iPhone 15 and some other modern phones don't, so this SIM card wouldn't work for them. Otherwise, it's simple and straightforward to connect! I chose to use WhatsApp during the trip instead of iMessage, since I wasn't able to receive calls and texts were delayed, but that wasn't a big issue. Overall, I recommend this product!

Easy to install and activate
The sim card comes in a full-sized credit card that has cutouts to pick the size of the SIM you need for your intended phone. The small pamphlet has instructions in English as well as Japanese. The APN is listed just in case you need to change those settings on your phone. The SIM was placed in an iPhone SE and everything happened automatically. Once turned on, it worked instantly in Japan. The 3 gigabytes of data should last a week of navigating and translating on your phone. It is a good idea to get your SIM early before your trip to ensure you have data access on your phone.

Receiving texts is slow
This sim card came in all three sizes so it works well for a phone with a SIM tray. It was easy to install and turn on by following the instructions. It worked well throughout my trip in Japan, although most of the time I had 4G connection rather than 5G. This worked well in the cities, Mt. Fuji area, and even in Okinawa. I was also able to use it outside of Japan without issues, like in Taiwan.I was able to make use of the SMS function when I needed to make an account in order to call my car rental company for pick up. It took several minutes for the text to come through though, so I was concerned that it wasn't working at first. Give it ten minutes to work. This number is for receiving texts only so it will not work for sending texts.

Great Value & Hassle-Free Connectivity for Japan
I’m gearing up for a trip to Japan and needed a simple, reliable mobile solution that wouldn’t break the bank. The Rakuten Mobile Prepaid SIM Card caught my eye because it offers a full year of service for just $66 - an absolute steal compared to the steep daily charges I’ve seen with other providers like Verizon. The SIM activated automatically once I inserted it, which means I can hit the ground running without any setup delays. With 3GB of high-speed data available every month in Japan (and 1GB for global use), I have more than enough connectivity to stay in touch and access travel apps. Plus, it supports text messaging in over 73 countries - a handy feature to communicate with people back home when I'm abroad. The 3-in-1 triple-cut design is a smart touch, ensuring compatibility with any device without the need for extra adapters. For someone who values convenience and affordability, this SIM card offers a headache-free experience, which is I want when I'm traveling. All in all, if you’re traveling to Japan and want a no-fuss, cost-effective way to stay connected, this SIM card is definitely worth considering. Overall great value if you're going to travel to Japan or stay there for an extended period.BONUS: it comes with a little pin to pop your simcard out. Also it looks as if the manual is going to be all in Japanese characters, but inside there's an English manual... thank goodness!

Convenience and peace of mind...
After activating SIM card on phone, I cannot get any service. There is no customer service available outside of Japan to resolve this issue. Their website only helps those with post paid monthly contracts. The QR code provided with SIM card only takes you to their website which does not recognize prepaid SIM cards.
