Nice design - perfect for its intended purpose
I lead a technical rescue team on a Colorado SAR team. We're constantly training with our high-angle gear and stress testing our rigging, so we're frequently weighting knots to the point that untying them can be challenging. This spike is my ace-in-the-hole when we stress a knot to the point that it doesn't want to release. Perfect size to work with, very strong, sharp enough without being too sharp, and has a nice smooth surface. Pays for itself (many times over) the first time it saves a rope you would have otherwise had to cut.

It provides a great spike, highly functional for the majority of the ...
I'd had my eye on a larger marlin spike for some time. My primary spike that I use is from Camillus, a combo with a folding blade: Camillus Carbonitride Titanium Folding Knife with G10 Handle and Marlin Spike, 6.5-Inch. It provides a great spike, highly functional for the majority of the spiking I do (like most guys these days, usually something with paracord, and occasionally leather). At times I find myself in need of a larger diameter spike that can work deeper with a greater diameter. Enter the Myerchin. The Myerchin is a beauty to behold. Not small, not insanely large, it's the right size for working above the max the Camillus can get me to; if I'm using the Myerchin it's almost always in concert with the Camillus, starting with the smaller and working my way up, as the point of the Myerchin is not as small and is slightly more blunt (which makes it at home with larger cordage and rope work, which is also its intended purpose). As obvious in the pic, the sheath is 'left handed', worn on the right the arc will curve forward rather than back. This is no detriment to anything, and merely mentioned for the sake of completion. The sheath does have an eyelet on the front side of the belt loop which may be used to loop a lanyard through the eye of the spike essentially tethering it to your belt, ensuring that wet hands won't equal a loss overboard should it be dropped. Possibly my favourite thing about the Myerchin spike is that the surface is amazing, incredibly smooth and reminds me of the silky smooth polished surface of Snap-On wrenches. It feels good in the hand and provides almost no friction when working in even the tightest of knots.

Held up to an aggressive real world test
I bought this for my partner who was going on a two month sail on an arctic schooner to the arctic circle. They used this for the whole trip and it stood up to actual hard use of thing and untying rope on the ship. Amazing value for money, especially with the helpful sheath. Bigger than I thought it would be too. Definitely recommend.

Great little tool if you work with ropes
I use this tool to remove not from rope that I fell trees with. I wish the loop on the scabbard was big enough to put on a belt.

Good strong steel
Good strong marlin spike with some type of slick finish that allows it to slip in between those tight knots. I put it to use breaking down knots in 5/8th and 1/2 in double braid. It gives me no indication that it wants to bend or break. I've also open a stuck shackle or two. It's exceeding expectations. The leather sheath is nice but it soon got stretched out and loose after wearing it and sweating all over it. It still functions but it doesn't grip the Marlin spike like it did when it was new. The construction is good, but the nature of leather is such. Unless your doing backflips with the thing it should stay put.

Myerchin or Spike is great!
This Marlin Spine is super nice! Very heavy in your hand, very smooth. This makes even the tightest of knots cone loose. I bought it to keep in my Bob, and thought it would be good for Paracord, but it's bigger than I expected, so it would be great for bigger rope too. The sheath it came with is surprisingly nice, it's not cheap vynyl, it's leather a d really nice and includes a braded hole to tie a la yard to the spike for naval sailing use. I'm very happy!

Works great for my purposes of tying paracord for various tasks.
Very smooth fit and finish. Tip is sharp enough to get into stubborn knots, but not so sharp that I worry about damaging my project or myself. Great design and execution creating a sturdy hand tool that should last generations.
