Does this stop homemade ice cream from going too hard in the freezer?

It delays the growth of ice crystals during storage, so it delays (more than stop) going hard in the freeze. It definitively keeps it nice and smooth for a week, but I've never tested for longer (I eat my ice cream earlier!!). It also improve texture (makes the ice cream smooth and creamy) and provides some melting resistance (meaning, once scooped in the bowl it stays solid for longer and does does not melt straight away).

Can I use directly with my room temp ready mix icecream base for better texture?

No it needs to be heated to 65°C to activate. We do sell a prodcut called silk gel tat can be added to cold / room temperature ice cream base mix for improved texture. Thank you for your enquiry.
