5.5 STARS-Spoilers ahead
Great writing, top-notch storyline, loved the characters, and the romance.I found one little discrepancy. At one point early on, Rune comments wondering what they did with the bodies of witches after killing them, and making it seem like it was a mystery to everyone. Then later on, she talks about how they threw Nan's body in a ravine with the rest of the witches. Other than that, I loved this book.Poor freaking Gideon. I felt so bad for him when that shot rang out at the end. He loses absolutely everyone. But at the same time, he should have known if he tried to arrest Rune where his brother's loyalties would lie.I kept trying to guess who Cressida was going to be, and who it was surprised me.I'm super excited to get to the next book. I can't wait to find out what happens.

An epic game of cat and mouse
4.25⭐️ / 5⭐️“She was the Crimson Moth a wanted criminal, not to mention a witch, hiding in plain sight. But this wouldn’t be the first time she had walked into a space full of the people who hunted her kind.”“Rune was a deer, and he was a hunter.”“If he wasn’t careful, he might fall in love with her.”“she reminded him of the sea: steal-your-breath beautiful on the surface, with the promise of untold depths beneath.”“Only fools believed in happy endings.”This books is true enemies to lovers. A thrilling, fun, and fast paced cat and mouse, fake dating(ish), enemies to lovers (witch x witch hunter) forbidden romance that keeps you locked in from page one.The Crimson Moth is rescuing more and more witches from being executed, so Gideon (the witch hunter) is determined to find out who The Crimson Moth is and put an end to her. He has a hunch that the witch in question is Rune but has no way to prove it.Rune wants nothing more than to find and rescue Seraphine from the Republic before she is purged as a last request from her deceased grandmother. Both Rune and Gideon pretend to date each other to get intel from one another. So neither one knows that the other is courting the other simply for information (at first *wink wink*). I thought this was a very innovative and fun take on fake dating.Plus, they both despise each other which makes for a very banter filled, epic game of cat and mouse. I highly recommend!🌿True Enemies To Lovers♥️Witch x Witch Hunter🌿Morally Grey Characters♥️Forbidden Magic🌿Best Friend’s Brother♥️Secret Identity🌿Fake Dating♥️Banter

Starts slow and ends with a bang
Would not have given this book 3 stars halfway though, but totally missed the ending until the last few pages. By then I couldn't put it down. A must read just to broaden your imagination.

Ball my heart up like a piece of paper and throw it in the bin
The first 50 or so pages I was reluctant.Like a fish swimming around in the ocean, I needed bait to bite. Something enticing. Interesting. And then enters Gideon. Dark. Handsome. Brooding. Filled with hate. The tension was strong enough to bury me within the pages of the book for the rest of my life. I was chained to those pages for the better part of a day. Flitting through them so quickly the sun had risen and begun to fall before I knew it.Reading the back and forth, the dual perspectives between Rune and Gideon made my heart ache.I felt like I was reaching for the wispy clouds of sweet endless joy when the floor would cave in and despair would eat me alive.I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The romance and the yearning are something I think other authors should take note of. Splendid job.

Why did I wait so long to read this?!
Thank goodness I finally read this book! It was everything I needed at the moment. I can’t wait to read book 2. The angst is going to be perfect. Who doesn’t love a sexy little life-or-death game of cat and mouse? The characters had depth and were thoroughly entertaining, the plot was refreshing, the writing was fun. It was an all around solid book. 10/10 recommend. It’s a completed duology so throw this baby into your TBR or move it up your list if it’s already there!!
