Far better than some reviews suggest
To get the important stuff out of the way first , this is a brilliant shaver. No I would never pay it's RRP , but if you can ever get it on sale with a good discount .. then snap it up.Hope this helps a few of you out .. longer thoughts below.Few things to clear up from reviews that had initially almost put me off purchasing ..1) Yes there is a lot of distance from the start of the shaver head to where the blades are and as others had brought it up I was a little worried.Turns out it makes little to no difference to how I have to shave and does not impact on the quality of the shave either.2) Yea it's a little flashy and blingy with all the lightsTwo seconds after unboxing I used the menu to turn off the lights3) It has an app ...You don't have to use it , I don't use it and it works perfectly fine. It's not something you have to use if you don't want to.And lastly and frankly the most hilarious reason for a 1 star review I've seen ..4) It doesn't come with a UK plug...I don't know how old the person posting that was , but I assume this must be a first razor purchase. As with all electric razors , it comes with a standard 2 prong bathroom razor plug , which if you don't have can be used in a normal plug adapter. So I've just about always used a Phillips electric razor and I've always been really happy with my old old PT920 , its been getting long in the tooth for ages and tried to replace it with a cheap S5420 years ago .. it was ok but not as good as the 920 so soldiered on as I was , occasionally swapping between the two while noticing that neither were really giving me a good shave any more so....I spot this 9000 on sale , searched around to make sure it was a sale , read the reviews , got put off by a couple of them but figured hey it's Amazon , if it's not good it can just go straight back.I am very glad I did , I had not shaved for a couple of days so I could try it out and man .. it performed awesome.Gave me a nice close shave , no issue with missing the hairs under my nose or the edges of my mouth and used it again today with a normal day's growth and it performed just as well.My skin isn't irritated but I can feel it's given me a close shave .. it's hard to explain.Battery life .. with all the lights and everything on yesterday used about 6% today with lights off 2%So it seems battery life will be great.Very easy to use , one button to start and stop with a menu button press to change and press and hold to confirm.Charging was quite fast and while the charging stand is a bit cheap , it does it's job, but you don't have to use it , you can just plug a razor charging cable straight into the razor.Overall I am very happy with my purchase, I certainly as I said would never have paid RRP for it , that's just crazy .. but if you can get it on sale then it's well worth it.As for the app and connectivity , I haven't used it and probably never will.

A great piece of kit
Best razor I've ever had. Very close shave, lots of nice techie features, endless battery life. A proper boy's toy but also robust and practical. A bit chunky, but easy to handle due to good ergonomic design. My delicate skin has now survived numerous shaves without even the slightest nick.

The very best!
IMO the electric shaver on the market, not cheap but if you’re looking for an electric shaver this is the one!

High quality device.
When my Remington foil shaver broke I went looking for a new razor. Tried a cheap Braun but that was noisy and didn't come with any accessories. Upgraded to a Phillips s5000 which was good but annoyingly didn't have an integrated trimmer. Saw this S9000 on offer at £150 which is the limit on what I was prepared to spend on a razor. Tbh the cheaper 5000 gave the same results but this one has some nice features such as the illuminated pressure light ring and an oled screen. It also came with a charge dock and a hard shell case and has Bluetooth but that's a bit of a gimmick. Been using this every day since and while not as close as a blade it gives good results and is very nice to use.

Improving
This is my second series 9000 Philips shaver and it has improved on the closeness of shaving. It’s quite a big beast, but works well with the app and cleaning pods. So far impressed and happy with the quality and closeness of shave. Battery life is good. Time will tell how well it keeps shaving.

Best ever shaver!
At 64, I've had all the main shaver brands. Cheap ones, expensive ones, American, German, Japanese and more recently Chinese. I have a fairly vigorous beard growth and unlike some people who can look 'cool' with stubble (curse them...), I usually looked wrecked! Consequently, I keep razors at home, office and in my car.Personally, I enjoy detailed, wet shaving with a single blade razor in the evening, when I have the time: quite relaxing. Early morning shower/shave with one of the typical multi blade razors and/or a battery shaver. The Philips 9000 is just spectacularly good. If you're thinking about buying one then just jump in if the price is right. I believe the 8000 and 9000 are pretty well identical, both have the useful pop-up sideburn trimmer. The more expensive 9000 Prestige not only looks bulkier but had no built in trimmer, which doesn't seem something I would want to pay extra for!I have been thinking about buying one of these high-end Philips models for ages. Having tried this both dry and wet, I can confidently say it's probably the best razor you can buy. Genuinely, your skin feels even closer-shaved than with a blade (they've been trotting out this BS for years, but have finally achieved it!). Zero irritation too, you just end up with super smooth skin.Build quality is excellent, very light in the hand and very quiet in use. If this all sounds too good to be true, then treat yourself and I hope, like me, that you're pleasantly surprised.I didn't buy the cleaning pod, just because there wasn't a deal that made any sense. I'm not sure you need it, as a rinse under the tap seems to work just fine. Anyone tried it then feel free to leave a note... Is it actually useful or a man-gadget?
