Nice set for sourdough or other uses
This set is great. It’s has everything you need to start your sourdough journey. It’s easy to use and clean. The design of the glass jar is thick (like a mason canning jar). It’s a 4 1/2 cup (1100 ml) size and has a large opening with a screw on lid. The measurements are marked in black lettering with cups and mls. I’m not sure how the lettering will hold up after several washes because I have only washed mine a couple of times and they have slightly started to disappear. I don’t use mine for sourdough starter because I stink at trying to get it started. I kept the set because it’s well made and I have found other uses for it in my kitchen.

Sourdough Starter Kit
Very pleased with this sourdough jar. I make sandwich sour dough bread every week for my kids and grandkids. The sourdough starter is in the jar in the fridge during the week. Take it out weekly when making bread. Love the jar and the changeout lids!

Larger Jar is Best for Sourdough Starter
** I am updating this review** Customer Service at "Derek's Goods" (seller) is 5 star White Glove and over the top exceptional. I did not attempt to return this sourdough starter kit and was making the best of it, although not happy with it. Well, that was not acceptable to this company! They reached out to me and offered to send me the wide larger Jar. I will post my review of the larger, wide mouthed, jar and see if the issues are resolved with this one. I hope to be a customer for life with this most exceptional company!Attention SD newbies (like myself) looking to start the sourdough journey. This is NOT the jar to use. You want a shorter and wide mouth jar. This one is hard to clean unless you have small hands and a small dish brush. I did not understand that you need to clean your jar every couple of days or it gets really gunky and you risk mold growth. The stretchy fabric lid cover is nice and the temperature gauge strips are nice too but only when you are not washing your jars lol. So the strips will not last that long when exposed to hot soapy water. They give you 3 and I used 2 that are already coming off the jars (lost the 3rd one it was missing) When you feed your starter you have to scrape down the walls of the jar also and getting a rubber spatula in this narrow jar is not super easy. The one included is too stiff to scrape with but works well to mix it up with but honestly a fork works way better. Save yourself the money and get a Weck mold or Tulip jar 500 ml to 1 liter size or something comparable. Also, don't bother with any jar that has the lid attached in that metal spring clamp mech. Super annoying to deal with when cleaning them. FYI having more than one jar is needed so you can transfer your starter into a clean jar ever so often in order to clean the dirty one. Need to rotate every several days as needed. I wish someone had explained this to me.

Good size, features and quality
Great for measuring and keeping track of feeding your starter, but it's a challenge to keep clean with the ridges. But also what makes it good to keep the lid tight when you need to put in the fridge.

Great starter kit
This is a great starter kit. I knew nothing about starter or sourdough prior to this and this has walked me through it and had everything I needed in it.

It works, but the jar is not ideal.
This kit is ok, I still use the spatula and cloth covers but I’ve moved on from the jar. It is just too big for a person who just bakes one or two loaves per day. It’s size makes it harder to keep and scrape clean than what I finally landed on using, and it’s kind of a chore to dig deep in the jar to reach and get the starter out.I found that 250ml borosilicate beakers work great. Their sides are flat all the way up, can easily prepare ~120ml of starter, they are well marked, and I can get them in packs for cheap. Need more room, get a 500ml, but note that the rated volume is only 2/3 or so of the total on beakers, it will hold the rating easily without completely filling.Having a bunch of small beakers that are easy to clean is game changing. I can split and prepare single servings from the main starter or I can daisy chain slightly more than one recipe worth of starter into clean jars each day, never giving them a chance to get crusty.
