Lost Long time Customer / Quality has dropped.
This is my 4th L5 in about 10 years. Always been very happy. When I first starting using this I had to turn the dial up much higher to produce heat. I live in Florida so the water doesn't get that cold. Maybe in the 60's. However, mid winter, I had it at full heat and had to decrease water flow just to stay warm. My thoughts were, it gets too hot in the summer so it maybe better then, so I kept it. Around 8 months into use, it randomly stopped igniting. I checked the batteries and changed tanks and seemed to correct the problems at first. Then started doing it again. Finally it would not ignite at all at 10 months. Contacted support and they told me to take front cover off and tap the solenoid with a screwdriver. It worked. They said they would send me the part.First of all, when did it become standard that we have to fix our item under warranty? I'm pretty good at this stuff but would be a challenge for many. I replaced the part and it worked for another 3 months and started doing again.By this time I was out of warranty and was not happy. Plus it was rusted much worse than my previous units.I contacted them again and they said "sorry, you're out of luck". I then said that I would never buy their product again and even showed past receipts of my other purchases. I had sent probably 10 emails explaining the intermittent problem, lack of heat and photos the rust. They got back to me and said if I wanted to return, (at my cost) they would fix it. So I boxed it up and returned at a cost of $23.00. A couple of weeks later I get the same rusty piece of S$&T back again. NO note inside. Had to go on line. "No repair" Worked fine.Amazing!!! Did they ever read my emails that this is intermittent. What a waste of time and money. Tech support and warranty is next to worthless. Did they ever check for heat temperature? Of course not.How hard would it be to put a new cover on it?????? Usually, rust is covered for more than one year. Why because they don't give a S#$T.They lost a loyal customer. In fact I was going to put a large unit for the entire house. Glad I saw their true worth.See photo. Old faded unit on left. Still works. New rusty unit on right. CRAP!!!!!!! Never threw away the old one because I was never happy with the new one. Old one still going.New update: I bought a Gasland outdoor shower heater about 6 months ago. About the same price with good reviews. So far very happy. It has a winter and summer mode, digital temperature display and most important it doesn’t blow out with even a strong gust. The Ecotemp would blow out even in the light wind conditions and you would have to restart constantly.

Not what they used to be
I have purchased a few of these. The original one was incredible! That was maybe 6 years ago. They were used as my primary water heater for an off-grid cabin and it was used as hard end as heavy as any home would put demand on a hot water heater. It lasted longer than I had expected. Eventually it was time to replace it. The next one I got was the same size and everything but they had updated it and appeared to only be a change in appearance but right away I started having problems. The high temp cut-off switch wouldn't allow me to take 50° water and get it hot enough to satisfy anymore which had never been a problem in the past. They also changed the customer service policies and made it more difficult to actually get through to anybody and at one point you actually had to jump through quite a few hoops to even be eligible to talk to somebody. Not sure if that's ever been changed. Anyways I opened up my old unit and cannibalized the high temp cutoff switch. It turns out they downgraded the cut off by 20° Celsius if I remember correctly. That's pretty significant. I'm sure it had something to do with liabilities because people are stupid. Anyways I bought a third one and it was nothing but problems. It takes a lot of tinkering to adjust the inner workings to make them work and the high temp cut off switch thing is not cool. I'm not sure I would buy another one but if I do I'm just going to go to eBay and buy a separate high temp cut-off switch in the warranty be damned. For the amount of finicking you have to do with this I guess you'll have to decide whether or not it's worth it. If you tinker with it just right the thing is incredible. But out of the box these last couple have been anything but satisfying

Good product but has some issues.
I bought this to set up an outside shower while our bathroom was being remodeled. Unfortunately, the smallest breeze will go down into the unit and blow out the flame even when it is set for full blast heating. I attempted to build a tin windbreak around the unit to solve the problem but the flame kept going out anyway. It works great in an area with zero wind. It took awhile to tweak things so I could get a shower that was not too cold or hot. You need good water pressure so that a decent volume of cold water is introduced into the system. The propane heats the water fast. If you don't have a lot of water coming in you are going to get scalded. Turning the temperature dial all the way down did not help. If you can get a lot of water running through the system you can adjust the Temp dial and get a perfect shower. Once the water system becomes pressurized it takes the grip of King Kong to turn on the water flow at the shower head. It may be best to turn the shower head on before you turn your water source on. The propane ignites as soon as the unit senses water flow and turns off as soon as the water flow stops. Great feature. I was going to give 3 stars because I could not always use it outdoors but the unit is not described as an outdoor water heater. I think 4 stars is more fair. Its a good unit and I recommend it as long as you don't use it in an open outdoor area. We live out in the country on some private acreage. Showering under the sun and stars was great when there was no wind. We will buy another when we get a wooden stall built to fully protect it from the wind.

Fantastic shower
This is the second one I have purchased. The first one I have had for 8 years and it still works but the water didn't get as hot as I would like after this many years of use so we purchased another one and now we have very hot water again! They are very handy and easy to hook up. Great quality for the money!
