A Masterpiece !
I'm thrill & Excited to be the first writing a review about a book that in my eyes represents one of Humanity greatest achievements.Let me stand correct - it's more than a book - it's a state of the art Tour into the Human brain- A tour into the Most complex system known to us- System held by The most interesting animal on earth- Homo sapiens- or Just "Us".I have "been around"' Neurons, Synapses, Receptors are not new to me/From Mark Bear "Exploring the brain" Last Edition To Eric Kandel- "Princples of Neural science" Last Edition. And many..many more! Neuroscience, Evolution, Biology, Psychology- You name it..This book is one of the best out there…if not " The….."But it comes with a warning, This book is not for the " fainted heart "(don't mind some dulism to make a point ; ) It doesn't have the classic introduction section what we can call the "Culture of Neuroscience"- about Borca and Golgi, Pinheas, H.M Patient and many more – It doesn't start slow and then speed up…Instead ,this book looks you in the eyes and says "Get ready to Enter The big league, what separates boys from men" or classical psychology from neuroscience if you will(with all the respect).Very up to date science, Great Figures and Tables, Great chapters on LTP/LTD, amazing resolution in receptors/channels/pumps both figures and explanations, lovely chapter about evolution and development in the end and much more.In a word, "Neuroscience" by Dale Purves and the other great editors is -A MASTERPIECE!

Excellent resource for the serious dilettante
Am working my way through the standard 1st year medical school curriculum on my own; this book is very well written. It explains the principles of neuroscience in satisfying detail, and contains numerous invaluable illustrations. I am disappointed, however, that the chapter on nerve circuit development as it relates to sex differences caved and depended on Fausto-Sterling’s absurd definition of intersex. One can only hope that by the time the next edition comes out we will have moved back to a place where our medical school textbooks adhere to the scientific method and not ideological whimsy.

A supremely complete volume on the science of the brain and nervous system
Considers the body as a whole when presenting the nervous system and the brain in great detail. One of the authors, Leonard E. White, PhD, teaches a massive course on Medical Neuroscience, given on Coursera for a very small price. The condition of the book is also exactly as TextBookNook listed it. Excellent condition, with the unopened access code, which provides access to online resources.I am not connected in any way with the authors, just an appreciator of fine tools, and this is a great tool for learning.

This book has been around
It just arrived. I was expecting it to be better kept. The pages were previously wet so they stick together. The brown paper inside the hardcover can be seen on all corners. It has grease on the cover. It’s definitely been used and carried around. It is still legible and I know the content will be good, so I cannot give it less stars than 4 despite the bad state.

Great upgrade from the 5th edition!!!
This book is amazing if you’re in neuroscience major. I recently just upgraded from the fifth edition to the sixth edition and the layout is much more user-friendly. I definitely recommend this book!

Excellent Textbook and Reference
When I enrolled in an on-line Medical Neuroscience course taught by one of this book's authors, I used this most excellent textbook to great avail. The illustrations are superb and further explain the text in a most readable complementary way. I have since looked at other neuroscience texts, but have found none to compare to this one.
