Can't go wrong at <$20
45yrs a woodworker/cabinet maker and I picked this up for under $20. UNDER $20. And it is not a piece of junk as some made said. It is nicely finished stainless (which anybody who knows their way around knives or blades knows it's harder to sharpen then carbon steel) But in terms of it being handy, compact and plenty sharp if you know how to properly edge an axe. Plus, I assumed the adze end would be dull and just a hoe but it came almost sharp and didn't take much for me to put a pretty decent edge that I can use to chunk out pieces of wood in addition to chopping out roots. I'm going to say this was probably made in China even though it has a very Japanese looking logo in characters on the head but I'm also going to say that I've had my share very fine German and Swiss cutting tools and knives and I've had my share of dirt cheap almost throw away blades and axes. in the last 5 years or so it seems like the Chinese have got their acts together probably because you're a pain or American designers are actually going over there and overseeing the manufacturing process and I've gotten an amazing CRJC or something like that cleaver blade pocket knife for extremely cheap that's right up there with some of my best knives including Spyderco and benchmade. I'm going to say this little axe It's very sharp looking because who doesn't want to look a little bit medieval when they're shopping wood or weeds in their yard or backpacking. The review people that claimed it didn't stay on the handle don't know how to use a sliding pickaxe head properly. It's true the handle that comes with it is nothing but a straight 16-in slightly flared piece of hardwood and it's not bad but I immediately made my own handle just because it's my preference and I put a little curve in mine anyway. It's not very difficult to make your own handle in my opinion. I think you could probably go into any forest find a branch that's one and a half by one and a half and then whittle the top to fit. So it's only been 2 days but I'm loving the thing. I'm switching off between this and its ax head and my Brazilian maid also very inexpensive machete which you could also say is cheap but with a simple smooth file I can put a razor edge on it that will last for the afternoon of hard chopping And I fully expect to touch up the edge almost every time I use it on a decent size job. I would say the only con to this is if you're someone who wants a small ax to just hang around your garage for decades and you just pick it up every once in awhile to use it and you think it's going to be sharp then maybe this isn't for you. Because this is an ax you definitely have to sharpen and it stainless steel so it helps to know how to sharpen stainless steel. If I find in a year that the stainless finish pits and stains too easily I might come back and revise the review but I'm giving it four stars just because you cannot go wrong with this thing at $19. pretty positive I'm going to buy another one with the pickaxe instead of the adze and give it to an old buddy who will gladly pretend he's a Viking warrior while tilling his garden for potatoes and beets

Get your own handle.
The handle I got was very skinny and very unwieldy. I chose to use a piece of ash wood instead. But the head of the tool is very sharp, very well made, and has a great design for gardening.

Great little hatchet
Too cute. This was a b-day present for my Mom, she loves it. Its light weight and is perfect for weeds and chopping things. It arrived early, and it was sharp right out of the box. I hammered the head tight on the handle, and it works great. Its inexpensive and I definitely think you should get one.

It looked cool
Axe head appeared to be sharp, slide on head typical of a mattock, Handel length was as described. If you wanted a wall hanger or wanted to look medieval in your greenhouse this might be for you. I returned this item as it was clearly not up for the yard task I needed a tool for.

Small and lightweight
At first I thought it was a joke--it is so small and light. However, it has proven to be very usable in tight spots and I've grown to like it much more than initially. I had blackberries growing against the house foundation and interspersed among shrubs and flowers. My large mattox was difficult to swing without collateral damage, but this small pickaxe worked great. I may replace the handle with one a few inches longer--but it is handy at its current length.
