Sharp tools are safe tools - and this does the job very well
I have used this for sharpening kitchen knives, pocket knives, sheath knives, and chisels. It really does put a paper-slicing razor sharp edge on very easily. The diamond surfaces are very flat and a good size even for large chef knives. The holder is excellent - it holds the "stone" firmly, it doesn't slip, and is easy to loosen and tighten when flipping the stone over.If your not experienced in using a whetstone it's well worth the effort to learn. Once you can put a good edge on your cutting tools you'll never look back.Incidentally the price varies quite a bit - you should be able to get it for around £20 which makes it exceptionally good value.

Still works
After using for a year or two sharping chisels it still in good condition and i can get a hair shaving sharpness on it.

Good value and effective
Purchased as I was fed up with cupped oilstones giving me an inconsistent edge on my tools. As an initial test, I lapped the bottom of a Marples 102 block plane, and sharpened the blade. Neither of which has been given any attention in 30+ years. The coarse side of the diamond surface did a good job of flattening the sole of the plane. The 1000 grit side took a lot longer than expected to polish up the surface afterwards. However, the 1000 grit side did a very efficient job of sharpening the edge of the plane blade. The product feels sturdy, although I remain sceptical as to how long the diamond surface will last. However, at the price I paid (£25), I'll feel I had my money's worth after a year of light use. Hopefully the base will be able to accommodate a replacement diamond platter in the future.I found the device stayed put in a laminated worktop and a stainless steel sink drainer without issue, even when worked hard. The protective pouch is a bonus, although a tad tight.

fairly effective and value for money.
For the price, this is good value for money: the non-slip stand can be used with other sharpening stones of similar size and this stone, or whatever one calls it, is reasonably flat. I have noticed some wear after using it, but it remains fairly effective as part of a sharpening regime. Since a good quality similarly sized sharpener is 60 odd pounds dearer, you must expect to compromise to some extent. The key to longer life is to keep it clean in order to clear away the debris that builds up. Interestingly, the challenge in using this for sharpening comes from cheaper tools whose blades and cutting irons need so much work to get flat, ground and honed. Better quality irons and blades need much less work and will help to prolong its life. I use this alongside a fine India stone and a series of abrasives on a glass slab. the 400 grit is good for taking off the bulk of metal and the 1000 prepares them for final angle and honing. All in all, I'm glad that I have it and it has proved effective in my sharpening routine.

V. Impressive stone
As a carpenter I tend to give my chisels a "freestyle" sharpen as and when I need them to be sharp (door hinges/locks etc). This is ok for a while but my blades were getting out of shape. My apprentice had this faithful diamond stone and I was immediately impressed. I already had a honing guide so I sharpened a few chisels on it and promptly ordered this set.It has adjustable stop blocks which accepts any size stone and the stone by itself does a good job (400 /1000 grit) . Ive used a 2000/6000 grit whetstone with this set to finish my blades and the results are awesome.Definitely worth investing in a honing guide and I've been using the faithful one which is pretty cheap and had no problems so far.

Very good product
The first thing you notice is how heavy it is, it gives you confidence,It is a very good size, you would not want it any bigger for sharpening planes or chisels. Much bigger then the wet stones i have.I first used it to sharpen a plane iron with a nick in it. Before i would have used wet and dry paper, perhaps 60, 120, 240 grit before going on to 400, 600, 1000, and 2000 grit wet stones. This time i used both sides of the plate dry. It was much easier, and faster then before. To get a mirror finish i did use my 2000 wet stone. It would have been sharp enough without this stage. And unlike stones you dont have to keep flattering them.Excellent product at a very good price.

CHEFS BUY THIS IT'S AWESOME!! Don't pay someone to come into your kitchen and grind the hell out of your knives DIY!!!
Couldn't wait to try this and am so happy with it! As a Chef, i've usually used whetstones or carborundum sharpening stones throughout my career, but the main Gripe with most of them is that they don't have a non slip holder..... OR if they do due to their lightweight they still move around whilst sharpening! And you have to Bugger about with soaking them before and maintaining them after!Well problem solved with this! No movement whilst sharpening with this Bad Boy! It says you can sharpen dry or with water, from sharpening a knife dry then wet, I found it worked better wet for me! (an empty spray bottle filled with water works best for me!!)It's Brought an old Santoku knife that had quite a pronounced heal from too much sharpening, back from the dead in a matter of minutes, Obviously i started on the 400 grit side to straighten the edge then to finish of on the 1000 grit sideIt's a lot heavier than a usual stone i'd say it's easily 2 and a bit kg, but this solves it moving around in my view! And also comes with a protective case!Great Price, Great Product, Sharp, Straight Edged Knives!
