Tunze 9004.000 Comline DOC Skimmer

12/02 This is my second skimmer used on my innovative marine 38 aquarium. Fits perfect in the filter chamber and works flawlessly. I had a Hydor previously and it worked but no where near as nicely as this. Its been 2 weeks so lets see if it keeps up the performance. But so far I would recommend it to anyone.12/31 This thing rocks! pulls so much gunk out of the water. My water is crystal clear. Still working flawlessly.08/26 Still working as well as the first day. I havent cleaned it once since i bought it. Such a well made product, in very impressed.

Point deducted for combination of flimsy plastic feel and microbubble sensitivity. It will cloud your tank with tiny bubbles when new and in certain situations thereafter even after break in.I still like this product after a year. It is an awesome little internal skimmer that is highly functional for a medium stocked 40 breeder with fish, LPS, and soft corals. Seems reliable, produces nice skimmate, is easy to clean, and quiet.I am planning to add the new matching internal media filter as an upgrade later this summer to help with surface slick.

This little nano skimmer is a powerhouse. Just be careful with the plastic clips that secure the magnets on the back of the unit. I bent one and almost broke the plastic “tooth” trying to straighten it back out causing it to no longer “snap” onto the magnet. Perma-fixed it with a little superglue. Had micro bubbles during the first couple weeks but that’s no longer an issue. Easy adjustment, cleaning is simple. and it runs pretty quiet too. Def a great choice for my 45gal marine aquarium.

As for skimming the product seems to do an effective job. The problem seems to be in its cheaply made design. I say this because it is a micro bubble factory. I don’t see any length break in stopping this. It leaks bubbles from its seams and from the bottom and this makes the display unpleasing due to the bubble mixture. The cost of making this has to be very low as it’s all cheap plastic and then they charge you a steep price. So for me this is an overall product fail. I’ve watched and read every tip to help stop the bubbles but nothing works.

I purchased this as my old skimmer wigged out and flooded my room with a few gallons of water. It was a little more than I wanted to spend but I have the Tunze ATO that just works and I wanted this due to its size so it would fit in my sump. I have been using it for a week now and it is pulling brown/black skimmate out daily.it took about 2 days to get tuned in but seams to be just working like I want it to now.i use it for a 54 gallon corner tank with about a 7 gallon sump. Sometimes you have to spend a little more to get quality.

I've had this skimmers for two days now. I disassembled it to rinse it with warm water( as many suggested), put it back together. so far everything seems perfect except that the model I got had different (exterior) magnets than the one in the instruction booklet, they still have the tunze engraved on them, didn't get the rubber pads that you're supposed to attach to the magnets , instead I got a piece of Velcro. the prong on the (interior) magnets and the extensions are very fragile ( must be very careful when attaching them), I do see myself having to glue them in the near future because the unit is a bit wobbly !I got it running for couple of days so far, and I am having bubbles leaking from all around the unit ( top, bottom, sides, back front...you name it!), wherever there is a joint on this skimmer the bubbles are leaking from it... I checked with my local fish store ( who is also a dealer for Tunze) recommended that I contact the company for that, and said not to try to fix anything. So this is going to be my next thing to do after writing this review, contact the company and I'll post their respond here ( as is).and keep you updated.I gave it 3 stars because of the poor quality of the materials used in this unit , it feels cheap, I think they could've done something better for the price. especially for a German product.

The BEST protein skimmer I have seen after switching from the previous model to this new one. It is very strong and made a hugh difference to the corals which would just make it for a few days. You need to keep an eye on the disposal which fills up pretty quickly which again shows that it’s working very well. My 65 gallon salt water tank has totally changed and became very clear.

I bought for my 46g reef tank as my HOB AQUAFLOTOR had a spill issue and I couldn't risk leaking 10 gallons of water on my 3rd floor apartment. I opted for this Tunze skimmer, while it does not produce as dark/much as my AQUAFLOTOR 1000 skimmer, it does a great job of skimming and is a great piece of mind knowing I don't have to come home to a skimmer that has lost its mind and starts to overflow.. I am very happy with my purchase, I do believe it was overpriced when I bought it last year but it looks to be $50 cheaper now then when I bought it. All in all it is doing its job, and also not making me worry about it overflowing when I am not home or sleeping. I use the Aquaflotor as in sump skimmer not on my 75g FOWLR just in-case it goes mad again. I recommend this skimmer to anyone who needs a in tank skimmer and does not want a HOB skimmer.Pros : skims good and wont leak. Skims water surface. Easy to clean. Strong magnets.Cons : its in your tank taking up some corner space. Magnet connector detaches a bit to easily.
