Not a 1/2 hp by physical size or current draw.
This pump is half the size of my old pump. This only draws 5.12 amps while running. It takes 12 minutes to pump out what my old 1/2 hp pump took 7 min. What a waste of money and time to install it

Good pump
We use Goulds pumps in all of our wastewater lift stations. So I had no worries about purchasing this pump. Quite frankly the only reason I bought it from Amazon instead of one of the vendors is that I have a prime card and it lets me make payments interest free. Since getting the pump I have used it to pump sludge from my clarifier, as well as to pull seed sludge from an aeration tank, and pump Dow a contact chamber for repair. The vortex design is great for solids handling. And the pump has a decent GPM even at the top end of its head pressure. Though for my application, I had to use a ridged discharge hose. The blue plastic self priming ones just were not working. I had the pump about 15’ down plus another 8’ of horizontal travel. The flexible hose I think just created to much back pressure. But once I put the old faithful green ridged hose on it pumped like a champ.Unless your a wastewater treatment operator chances are your not going to put this pump through the hell I do. So far I probably only have about 35 hours on this pump. My other Goulds pumps have a few hundred thousand on them. But I will update this if need be in the future. For the price it is well worth it if you need it. It’s one of the main reasons my system uses Goulds pumps. Price and reliability. The construction is solid and weight isn’t bad. I’ve tired it up an down to the top of my plant several times. Though for most applications your probably just going to set it and forget it.All in all if your looking for a solids handling sump/sewage pump. This one is good. Depending on your application you may need to get the automatic version. Though you can easily add a piggy back float to this one. This is a easy one to recommend. If it can survive my wastewater plant, it’s a winner.
