Good, Beefy Quality
Got this fan for extra cooling in the garage. It was in addition to one that is similar that is sold under the basics nameplate. This fan is built well. It's heavier, beefy metal with thick metal blades and blows more air as a result. Compared to the Basics, it is quieter and has a lower running rumble. The two observed points are also why this is more expensive. Worth it? Yes. It runs well-balanced and quiet (for a fan). Opinion-wise, it reminds me of the tough, heavy fans of the 60's and 70';'s, where you got your money's worth. The cord is thick, and about 5-6 feet long. would definitely buy it again, and over the basics model, even at the higher price point.

Omigosh!!!!!.... This Thing really puts out the Air
When I received the fan I was pretty surprised at the packaging, because I could tell thru the box that there was no cushioning materials used, because I could directly feel the parts of the fan thru the box. Omigosh I thought, I just got a fan that is going to be all dented, broken or scratched up.That is, until I opened the box and could feel with my hands the quality and sturdiness of the fan itself. Not a scratch on it, because it really looks and feels like you would have to try pretty darn hard to dent this baby because it feels rock solid. It is an extremely attractive looking fan as well, and so I thought I might as well go ahead and turn it on...Wow!!! After I plugged it in and turned the setting dial The fun began. It puts out an INCREDIBLE AMOUNT of airflow and so I thought it must be turned up to Maximum Setting. Boy was I surprised to find that it was actually on the lowest setting it has. After trying all 3 settings(low, med,Hi) I doubt I will need anything but the lowest setting, because that one seems to put out hurricane-force winds. This is a great fan for hot Climates like mine and I feel this will pay for itself in a few years by lowing my cooling bills.Basically, what I am trying to say, is that this is the most attractive Hi-quality SUPER POWERED fan I have ever owned in my life. I have owned at least 10-15 store quality fans before, because I always bought those retail store fans that don't circulate air that well, or last long, and the motor gives out in a year or 2.Granted, I have only owned it for 24 hours now but I like to think I know quality when I see it. It does make a fair amount of noise, but actually LESS than I would expect for a fan of this power. I would estimate it is about 25-30% more powerful than what I was expecting to get. I did not really think the noise was that bad, and will put it in the kitchen area when watching tv so as not to overpower the tv audio. After trying it right next to the tv on low setting, I found that just by cranking the tv up just a bit louder than normal, I could hear the tv pretty well.I was so impressed with this fan that I IMMEDIATELY bought the 14" floor model, also made by Air King. After just feeling the quality of the fan, I would be really shocked if this fan does not last 10-15 yrs.....Sure, you can buy a fan for 1/3 the price, but I have bought about 4 of those lower quality fans in the last 6 years, and they all went belly-up, or did not do a good job of cooling/air circulation....I could have actually SAVED MONEY by just buying a fan like this Air King in the first place, and not having to buy 4 low quality fans.I am very very leery of some of the Chinese-made electrical devices, and having it MADE IN AMERICA with superior quality is a nice bonus for me.If you need a quality fan, Just buy it and love it....Like I did

Great fan
The air conditioner was getting too costly to run, so we decided to see if this fan would reduce our electricity bill, as our small home often heats up on the inside much hotter than the outside air. We have a large kitchen window, so I mounted the Air King on a small, portable Werner work platform on the counter, straddling the sink, to blow the hot air through the screen (the work platform is high enough that my wife can still do the dishes under the platform. Since it's only for hot days, she puts up with the "industrial platform look" to save on electricity. When we open the kitchen window, and two bedroom windows, and turn on the Air King, it blows the hot air out of the house and sucks in cool air through the bedrooms and down the hallway, even making the curtains fly inward - we even have to put a door stop in front of one door as the incoming air slams it shut. This baby really moves the air.It stays in the same position on the work platform, not travelling as some have stated. It lowers the interior temperature faster than the air conditioner. Yes, it makes a bit of noise (not the motor, but the air rushing), but to move that much air, that's to be expected - you can always turn it on high speed when you go out, although I don't mind the noise, as I feel the cool air rushing in. As others have stated, it would be nice if the low speed was lower, but not a major problem. I would buy another one if necessary, as it works extremely well, and it's well-built, unlike the Chinese plastic junk. The only two things I would improve is a lower low speed and a metal motor cowl (like the rest of the fan that is all metal). If you need to move a lot of air, get this fan - you won't be disappointed.P.S. Here is the work platform I use to set the Air King on:(http://www.amazon.com/Werner-AP-20-225-lbs-Load-Capacity-Platform/dp/B000VYN89U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405274999&sr=8-1&keywords=Werner+Aluminum+Scaffold+Work+Platform)
