Wise 8WP21-18S Boat Seat Pedestal, Adjustable Height from 12" to 18", with Standard Seat Mount

I paged through many products in my search for a height adjustable seat post. Finally this one showed up. Others are priced incredibly high, this Wise product is fairly priced. Does exactly what I needed with the height adjustment in the seat post. The swivel is included which is a bonus. I actually used my existing swivel as it has the forward/backward adjustment as well. That was with the manufacturer installed seat when the boat was purchased. A nice inclusion with a nice boat seat, don't know why they had a fixed height post and it was very low. I like being high enough to see over the front of the boat without interrupting guests seated at the front of the boat. With this adjustable post I simply choose a comfortable height for travel. Anytime I would choose to sit higher or lower the adjustment is at my fingertips. Very well built, quality materials, fairly priced. I'm happy with and would recommend these Wise branded products. Shipping took a couple of weeks but worth the wait. While I was waiting for it I pulled my seat post from the base and replaced it with a longer piece of thick wall PVC pipe that happened to be 2 and 7/8" OD. Worked fine as well but still fixed height.

Box says made in China and also under the base of the pedestal. The quality seems pretty good so far but I only got it yesterday. I will mount this in my boat when repairs to my boat are done, It's in the shop and will update this review later. The pedestal operates and feels sturdy to the touch and all welds seem strong and neat. It also has a very nice appearance with the shiny aluminum. It does not come with any hardware. The diameter of the base holes are 5/16 and tapered on top. The thickness of each bolt hole is also 5/16. It will take 6 bolts or screws to anchor it to the floor. I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it.Now let me explain how it operates. The top knob is for the swivel aspect of the chair. You can tighten the knob to keep it motionless or loosen to swivel and even take the swivel portion off the post. The other two lower knobs are for the post itself. You loosen the bigger knob, then pull the smaller spring loaded knob to adjust height. The post slides inside a sleeve cavity that you manually raise or lower. You keep the small knob pulled till you like the height you desire and then release. There are several holes inside the post that the spring loaded small knob will have to enter for height. There is no spring action inside the post so once you pull the small knob, gravity will send this down to shortest height so be careful. You cannot sit and adjust height of chair at the same time unless two persons work together. After height has been adjusted, tighten big knob and it snugs up sleeve to post to eliminate any slack movement on post. I hope this helps your purchase of this pedestal. I bought this off of the other positive reviews. Those reviews were correct. This base is well made and sturdy. The height adjustment is good but it is not hydraulic so don't sit on it while adjusting. The ability to turn the seat is done by loosening a knob. I found it better to use a swivel base. Installation hardware is not provided so you will need to purchase 6 Stainless steel screws or bolts. Once installed, the six bolts held it solid. Don't over torque the base - aluminum does not like to be over-torqued. Great value for the price.

Well built and fit my current hole pattern in the floor and on the seat. The adjust knob for rotating the seat is hard to do while you are sitting in the seat. Those with a lever to pull up are more easy to use. The only reason I didn't give 5 star.

Needed a pedestal to replace the removable posts. Wanted one I could lower so that someone could sit there while going at speeds more than 5mph. This works nicely.

Originally I ordered the Wise and received the Attwood. After getting the correct Wise and comparing the two, the Wise is hands down the better of the two in every way. The billet alum seat post is heavier duty on the Wise. The adjustments for the post and swivel does not require overtightening in order for it to hold well. If you are debating between the two, get this Wise.

Used to replace the single tube style seat holders on a 21 year old boat. Nicely made, easy to install, easy to install and for the helm position. it meet USCG standards. Mostly will replace the other two single tube seat holder with the same item.

As described and perfectly adequate for my application. One star rating is because the pin that locks the height adjustment in place came loose during shipping, the box had a hole in it from mishandling, and the small spring that tensions the pin must have fallen out in transport. Since there is no way to contact the vendor, I will have to order a replacement, which will involve shipping a heavy item back-and-forth (as well as the delay in using), when all I need is a replacement spring mailed to me.......
