Q: will it work in both directions ? I need to go Balanced to unbalanced.

I never thought of doing this. Lucky for you I had a XLR to 1/4 mono. I got Zero output. Which makes sense I guess. Can't go in an out :)

Q: how can i use this device to have a clean audio signal from a pioneer dj mixer to an iPhone for live streaming?

Use an interface and a daw to adjust the sound and having a quality cable helps as well such as : Mogami cables or monster cables.

Q: I have a noisy guitar pedal chain; will this suppress noise as the last unit before going into the guitar amplifier?

This direct box does NOT have noise suppression built in. Most likely, if your signal is already noisy this direct box will also pass the buzzing/noise along to the next item in the signal path.
