Nicely designed isolated RS-485 hat, with an unusual SPI expander
This is a HAT consisting of two isolated RS-485 channels - each with appropriate protection circuitry and a switchable termination resistor - connected to an SPI I/O expander. This is an unusual approach that has pros and cons: it keeps the onboard UART free for other uses like a serial console, but it does mean you'll need to do additional work to get this HAT up and running and working.Setup is actually pretty easy. Add this line to /boot/config.txt:dtoverlay=sc16is752-spi1,int_pin=24Once you do, you should have two additional ports ready to go, /dev/ttySC0 and /dev/ttySC1.More details are available by searching for Waveshare's wiki for "2-CH RS485 HAT", and I'd encourage you to view that before ordering. I found the instructions to be clear and comprehensive.

Integrated successfully into my project
It worked as expected I was able to receive RS485 Information from battery to convert to CAN for the inverter using information I gathered from the Internet. This product should work for any application to convert RS485 to CAN or CAN to RS485.

Quick installation. Comes with the onboarding bits. Works with arduino
This expansion module has performed well so far, I use it for dashboard monitoring of rpms before track testing. It adds 2 CAN FD channels and comes with an esd bag, screws, pin headers and spacer bolts. There is an adequate wiki page with instructions. I will update in the future if any issues arise but so far, 1 month after reinstallation, I've had no detectable errors.

it works, but ...
the waveshare instructions are outdated and I encountered problems installing system and libraries.1. I could not make it work on any 64-bit os; it only works on armhf raspios.2. python3 libraries must be installed in venv.so the hat works but it took a long time and patience to make it work. I used Pi4-b.
