Insect Lore Ant Mountain | with 25 Live Western Harvester Ants

We have loved ordering insects from insect lore every year, but these ants were not good at all. We followed all instructions but they did not tunnel at all; they simply move the sand from one side of the container to the other or drop it over the back. They even filled in any tunnels we began for them (as per instructions provided). Most of them slipped down the other side of the ant hill and would spend so much time trying to crawl back up to the top only to slip back down. We ended up putting a couple sticks over there so they could climb back to the sand side. A little over a week later and 90% of them are dead. We did carpenter ants a few years ago in another container and we still had a few ants alive months later. These are harvester ants btw.I think the issue here is that the container is badly designed. I understand the company can’t make the ants tunnel, but they need to fix the design issue to better encourage them to do so. Don’t waste your money, pick a different insect lore insect to study.

Only four ants were alive when they arrived. Then they only lived for three more days. Was hoping this would be a fun little project for kids but was a big disappointment.

So far so good? A few have died and they haven't gotten very far in the dirt yet. They keep grouping up together? Giving it 4 stars because my son REALLY wanted a queen, which I've learned are hard to come by 😅 Was hoping harvest ants would suffice but alas, tis' not enough.

I’m a little sad because the top of the mountain came broken. I don’t want to return it because I don’t want the ants to die! I’m going to take the top, but I’m not happy about it

The majority of the ant’s survived even though I forgot about them sitting on my front porch for 2 hours in the cold! My grandson was thrilled when he opened up the present for his birthday! Have bought more ants and will continue as long as he wants them!

Came late and ants were dead!

Was supposed to have 2 tubes of ants but only had 1 with the majority of them dead. Would like the other tube with actual live ants. Other than this the product was as stated.
