The Smart Weigh gets an A+
This digital scale was purchased to weigh jewelry metals and I hit the Jackpot on the first try with the SmartWeigh The package containing the scale with attached flip cover, a lightweight soft vinyl case and printed instructions arrived quickly and in good condition. The slim size and protective flip top allows it to fit easily in a purse or pocket. I am writing from the perspective of a first time digital scale owner. Overall, I was highly impressed at the quality of the product for the price. It is doing everything I wanted it to do and some things that I did not realize that I would need it to do. Calibration and mode changes are very simple. I do recommend actually reading the 4 miniature pages of instructions.Accuracy: It appears to be very accurate for a personal scale. Per my calibration set, out of the box it weighed 0.13 - 0.14 grams low. I followed the simple calibration technique and it weighs within 0 .01grams (one hundreths) on weights from 1 gram to the maximum of 300 grams. ( 300 grams is required to calibrate. I ordered a single 300 gram weight that arrived broken before finding an 8 piece set for only a couple of dollars more in a case. Even though I have to use the 100 + 200g weights simultaneously, I prefer the set ) The scale is very sensitive to breezes, even breathing directly on it, and vibrations. The 2.7" x 2.2" table is small but the Tare function allows an increased volume to be weighed easily.Four button function versatility:1)On/Off2)M = weight mode change with minimum weights for each mode: 0.01 grams, 0.001 ounces,0.05 ct, 0.001 troy ounces, 0.01 dwt, 0.2 grains. The M key is also used for calibration which takes only a minute or two max.3)C = Counts number of items being weighed. (I have not used this function)4)T = Tare subtracts the empty container weight so that the item weight is displayed allowing items to be place in a plastic cup/tray, etc.Other features: Battery saving 60 second auto off and 2 year warranty.Negatives: If the 300 gram weight limit and choosing your scale location wisely is not a problem, then there are no negatives.I highly recommend this little scale for small items.

Accurate and small
I was nicely surprised how accurate this scale is. It surpassed my expectations of quality for the price of $10. I use it to weigh yarn and fiber and this performed better than my kitchen scale that sometimes doesn’t recognize 2-3 grams of fiber on its surface.

Unreliable and hard to read
I purchased this food scale while on a trip, after realizing I had forgotten mine at home. Two days before a physique competition, knowing exactly what I was putting into my body was so important.Unfortunately, this scale is no where near as accurate as the mini scale I left at home if the item you're weighing is wider than the tray. I found myself calibrating the scale, putting the item on the scale (typically in a small food prep container), writing down the weight, removing the item, putting it back, and getting a different weight. The variance wasn't much, and it was enough to leave me concerned! I ended up going to Target to buy another scale because I just couldn't trust this.In addition, it is very difficult to read the screen once something is on the scale. In a few cases, I had to tare out the scale with my food on it, then remove the scale and use the negative weight as my amount. Will this be fine if you're just wanting an improvement over guesstimating? Sure. Is there some chance I got a dud? Maybe. Would I buy this over another option? Nope.

You need a 500g calibration weight. Great scale, works after a few years of owning.
Mine did fall out of calibration (or probably most likely went into calibration mode after the "M" [mode] button was long-pressed). After figuring out that I needed to hold the "T" (tare) button during startup, to get past the error code, then hold the "M" button to get back into calibration-mode, and then "C" (count), I was prompted with a flashing "500.0g". So I spent 20mins digging through my cabinets to find stuff that added up to 500g. I needed to do this process twice, because I had to deduct .1g from a Crystal Light packet, to get the correct weight, but after that, it was calibrated.Working flawlessly, after powering-down and back. It'd help to have a 500g calibration weight handy, as this unit can easily be reset.I imagine this is standard behavior for any digital scale. The accuracy is great, quality seems solid enough. Very consistent scale. Five stars.

Excellent Balance, outstanding value.
I was truly impressed with this scale. I have used analytical balances in my work for nearly 30 years and this scale is outstanding. I weighed a new dollar bill (usually very close to one gram) and this scale read 0.98 gram. I repeated weighing the bill 10 times in a row to check for drift and to determine the precision of the balance. All 10 times the balance gave 0.98 or 0.97 which is outstanding. I had two US coins (Eisenhower dollars) one 40% silver and the other a nickle-copper clad. The published difference in weight is around 2.25 grams and the balance was spot on. I would recommend purchasing a 300 gram calibration weight ($10-$12 from Amazon) for the balance because due to handling during shipping mine was off 20 grams (read 281 grams for 300 mL of water, should have read 300 exactly), but calibration is easy. The manufacture recommends re-calibration after shipping. The balance is designed to be carried around anyway and should be re-calibrated routinely to ensure accuracy and precision. I am very happy with this microbalance.
