Great homeschool supplement
We use this workbook for my homeschooled kids and they have really enjoyed it, it's set up with 4 day weeks which works perfect with our schedule.

Fantastic for reluctant writers
I am a homeschool mom to 2 boys, 2 girls. My 4th grade boy is a very reluctant writer and we have struggled all year. Our curriculum was too open-ended and too broad. He was becoming very frustrated every time we have to write something and our sessions usually ended in tears (for us both!). This has been WONDERFUL! It breaks up writing into small mini-lessons each day of about 10-15 minutes. On Friday, they use what they've learned that week to write a small piece. He doesn't even know he's writing, and he's enjoying it. His writing quality has improved in the short time we've used this book. I imagine it will be fabulous by summer break. I also purchased the 1st grade book for my other son, who is also doing very well with it and they both look forward to it each day. My only complaint is that I didn't start this at the beginning of the year!

Easy to use and not overwhelming!
I used this same series last year for home-schooling my now 4th grade son. It works great for him since he is one who gets easily frustrated and overwhelmed when he sees large chunks of work for the day. This book offers small pieces that expose him to a nice variety of writing. Each week starts with a specific grammar lesson, then works into learning a specific type/style of writing, easing into the chosen outline style (such as Ven diagrams and such) all gearing up for ending with students writing their own story/article/letter or whatever the case may be, using the outline created the day before. It's just enough to emphasize the various styles without bogging them down with ideas they may never use in life. It also includes short and simple teacher's notes that precede each week's lessons, making it so easy to find and use (no more than a minute to read). I recommend this book as a great resource both for the home-schooled student AND the teacher!

An useful learning and practice book with parent's instruction
This book is actually Evan-Moor Daily 6-Trait Writing for Grade 4. My kid and I both found it useful, but only if you pay attention and take the time to read and learn from it. The materials are well organized and the focus is clear for each activity. Some guidance is needed for the kid to know what to learn about from the daily activity. Doing it like homework probably won't provide much benefit.

Very good supplement to language arts
Our family uses daily six trait writing in addition to Time4Learning language arts to give them extra writing practice. The lessons are the perfect length and have improved our children's writing.

practical and effective
I really like the idea of six traits for the teaching of writing. However, when I am reading other materials for my class notes, I found quite a bit difficult to make my class students known how six traits are a good tool for writing until I started to use this book since this summer. As I am a teacher of Hong Kong, I hope more products like these series will be produced and released to ELS teachers who may have difficulities in making exercises for students themselves.

Definitely should probably put this book into practice one day, but 'tis for my wife's students, and not me
The wife needed this for her 4th grade students. She was happy when the book arrived, so I'm guessing that is a 5-star review? If making my wife happy isn't 5 stars, I don't know what else it would be. As you can tell by my review, I have not personally read this writing book. I guess you could say I am more of a fragmented and run-on sentence kind of guy.
