When I opened it I could smell that it was genuine. So hing itover the rails on my porch for a few hours and gave it a good shake. No more smell. Real pelts have this smell, and it isn't a chemical smell which is what I was very happy about. As far as the pelt...it is a real sheep skin, i bought the leopard print and it is honestly better than I expected. I do larp,sca,dagorhir,events and rennaisance festivals. This will work perfectly for my north African Roman kit. Couldn't be happier and will definitely be getting a few more.

I don't think this is sheepskin, but whatever it is is VERY soft. I think it's some type of real fur since my dog wants to eat it. Mine did not smell bad at all. It's super cute, I only wish it was larger for price it is.

I got this idea from another lady and her husband... I seen pictures in a review and I just had to do it... I'm so glad I did... my husband thinks I'm amazing... 😆 I buy all my stuff from Amazon on this rug is amazing...

I was super excited when I purchased this as a gift for someone. And it was delivered extremely fast, which made me more excited, but then I opened the rug. Which was packages oddly in plastic, taped together. Also, the moment I opened the plastic the worst smell overpowered me. It wasn’t a plastic smell, or chemical, it was much worse. I honestly can’t even put it into words properly, but if I were to describe it to a friend, I would say it smelled like death. For the $70 or $80 I spent on it, I had much higher expectations. The smell was not all either. The fur pattern was not lined up properly with the material underneath, which I can only describe as trying to match that of dead animal carcass. It was spotty and had bald areas tht were unsightly. Needless to say, I never used the rug as the gift I intended to, I also refused to bring it into my house to due the smell and it is still sitting in my trunk of my car because I’m unsure of what to do with it, because I don’t want to have wasted my money for nothing . I am so so disappointed
