Wonderful and unique flavors from distant lands
I was grateful to find this product as it isn't easy to find, and occasionally other businesses might try to sell more typical varieties of cardamom as if they were this unique Ethiopian variety. But this was the real thing. The product was well-packaged, sealed, and fresh. These are the seeds (i.e., perhaps 1/3 the size of a unpopped popcorn kernel?) and they should be ground just before use for the best flavor and fragrance. Prepare them by using a spice grinder, a mortar and pestle, or by wrapping a small amount of seeds in an envelope/pocket of parchment paper and smashing gently with a meat tenderizer. The flavor this cardamom imparts is truly unique across the tongue and throat. It's very fragrant and strong (bright and not smoky!), so start with a small quantity so you don't overuse it. This is a happy little spice with some tasty zing, so you won't find it hot or smoky! In the photo, I added it to a dish I made using cinnamon, cloves, raisins, some red wine, fresh squeezed orange juice, traditional Ethiopian pepper mix (Berbere), chicken, and this Ethiopian cardamom. It added a lot of complexity and complemented the sweetness of the dish quite well. The dish was spectacular with some freshly baked bread. Unfortunately, I don't know how to make traditional Ethiopian bread. I'm glad to see small businesses making this product available to American cooks who want to introduce new ideas and flavors into healthy meals. Great product that made for a happy meal with my family!

For the curious kitchen chef who enjoys trying new flavors!
There's green cardamom, and then there is Korerima, black cardamom. Also called false cardamom or my favorite: Grains of Paradise. It really is a delight to the senses when you use this spice. A little goes a long way, just a few grains and your dish will have a earthy, floral, smoky flavor that will set it above the rest with a depth that will have your friends and family wanting to know what your secret is.This 2.5 oz glass jar is filled to the brim and has a sturdy metal lid that screws on tightly for keeping the spice fresh. As a whole spice, they will last a long time too, if properly stored. I think you should give this spice a try, if you are a spice hound like me who enjoys having new and interesting flavors to experiment with.

Authentic Ethiopian Korerima
This is the Ethiopian black cardamom seed, very difficult to find and I'm very pleased with it. Roast it lightly & grind the seeds, use it to sauté your meat or vegetables to enhance your dish. One of the main ingredient in Ethiopian spices earthy and smokey floral. A little goes a long way just sprinkle this stuff and you good to go for delicious meal.

Unique and essential in Ethiopian cuisine
Ethiopian cardamom is sometimes confused with the more readily available Indian black cardamom, which it superficially resembles. However, the flavor profile is completely different. The Indian black variety is smoky, woody, and bitter. The Ethiopian variety is sweetly complex--nutty, fruity, floral all at once, somewhat akin to green cardamom, but with its own characteristic notes. And, like the Ethiopian basil also sold by this company, this product is essential in making a proper doro wat, aa well as other classic dishes.

Not what i expected
I have used grains of paradise spice for years. I bought a different brand because I moved and couldn’t find the same brand locally.Nothing like I am used to. What I have used and was labeled grains of paradise spice was a mild, slightly sweet, black pepper. Not overwhelming, not flowery. Just very mild. This particular spice is overwhelmingly cardigan. I bought two bottles unfortunately. One is unopened when I threw away after opening. I couldn’t even smell it. It was so strong. Tried to mix it with some regular black pepper that didn’t help. What a waste of money And unfortunately, I cannot send it back even though one bottle is unopened. Will never buy again.
