Not for $ Cheap Beginners
BLOCKS are the WAY TO GO !The big ones at the top of my photo are $12 pieces of paper. Well worth it at twice the price.I've been an artist since high school so I already knew the value of excellent quality art supplies for the best outcome of your creative time applied. I spent 27 years making OTHER PEOPLE'S visions come to life on computers so I could stay employed as an artist. I recently retired and BOOM, out popped tons of paintings. Arches is known for the super duper durability of it's 100% cotton watercolor substrate, and wow it really is super durable. It stands up to pencil erasures, then latex masking, even tape gum and remains absorbent and without changes to the texture either. Do your painting on the top sheet still attached on the block, that way warping is minimal with large repeated washes. Removal from the block is super easy with a round edged knife because there's a spot at the top without the adhesive to easily insert your art knife, or a butter knife, anything semi-sharp. (dull but still a blade) "lifting" works great without the "Lifting Medium"Yes, this brand is expensive, but nothing else compares for the end-quality of your pieces. If you prematurely remove your painting from the block and warp the heck out of it, just gently wet the back, lay it face down on a non absorbing hard surface that's FLAT, set the block on it and weigh it down evenly all over. Next day; it's very flat with no damage to the image. HAPPY PAINTING !

Just the best.
Much easier for an armature to get professional-looking results. 100% cotton, not cellulose paper. The pads are gummed on all 4 edges. Paint wet on dry or wet on wet with the paper still on the pad—the Arches dries evenly without buckles or wrinkles, and colors blend naturally. It doesn’t easily get over-saturated or dry too quickly to prevent working a bit more slowly and carefully. Start small and treat yourself to what watercolor painting should fell like. You won’t go back to the cheaper stuff.

favorite watercolor paper
Superior paper makes for the best painting experience. The ease of use, workability, the washes, blending, bleeding, and lifting of color and NO PILING after working and reworking an area. LOVE this paper. It really encourages growth in your skill as it makes painting far more enjoyable.

Amateur artist chiming in!
I took a class online for watercolor and they emphasized good quality paper even for those starting out so I hit the bullet and bought this! Oh my gosh it is beautiful to work with. It takes a lot of abuse without getting distorted or tearing! I’m not professional but this sure makes me look good!

Best paper ever for beginner or professional.
This paper takes wet on wet and dry painting. Best for beginner or prop. Very little buckle and normally dries flat.
